'Unbroken' Review: Phenomenal performance from Jack O'Connell and a very powerful story!

πŸ”— Unbroken πŸ”— Review πŸ”— 8.6/10 πŸ”—

Directed by Angelina Jolie

Starring: Jack O'Connell, Miyavi, Garrett Hedlund, Domhnall Gleeson, Jai Courtney and Finn Wittrock

Here is a film -- based on a true story of one brave soul and what he will overcome -- that perfectly showcases; Courage, honour, heart, strength, and unimaginable pain and suffering which is displayed in such brutal ways and cuts you straight to the bone.

The story follows, Olympian and Bombardier, Louis Zamperini (Jack O'Connell). As a boy, Louis is always in trouble, but with the help of his older brother, he turns his life around and channels his energy into running, later qualifying for the 1936 Olympics. When World War II breaks out, Louie enlists in the military. After his plane crashes in the Pacific, he survives an incredible 47 days adrift in a raft, until his capture by the Japanese navy. Sent to a POW camp, Louie becomes the favorite target of a particularly cruel prison commander.

In only the second time Angelina Jolies been behind the camera and she smashed it, Everything cut so deep and kept me enthralled for the hole 137 minute runtime. Roger Deakins with his godly cinematography as always. The supporting cast were great but then there's Jack O'Connell, who has been a favourite of mine, ever since Skins (I knew he was going places), it's the way he can portray every emotion in the book so well that get's me every-time, you feel his pain, his joy, hope and faith. The second best asset to this film was -- believe it or not -- japanese rockstar Miyavi who plays the brutal Mutsushiro Watanabe, he did tremendously well at making me hate him, yet feel sorry for him at the same time, the way he and O'Connell bounced off each other was perfect, they really brought out the best in each other (acting wise).

Great film, had some stick, but for Jolies second flick, I say Bravo! Must see!
