The Best Of 2017: Movies And Shows!

Image
🌟BEST OF 2017 🌟 So as 2017 slowly comes to an end, we all sit and reminess about all of the films and shows we have loved this year and I have to say there have been way more good this year than bad or ugly, there were just so many good films and shows it was near impossible and very time consuming to put this list together, but here it is: 0 Top 15 Movie Of 2017: • The Disaster Artist - 10/10 • Get Out - 10/10 • It - 10/10 • Three Billboards Outside Ebbing Missouri - 10/10 • Logan - 9.6/10 • Thor: Ragnarok - 9.2/10 • Brawl In Cell Block 99 - 9.2/10 • Dunkirk - 9.2/10 • Lady Bird - 9.1/10 • Mother - 9/10 • Shot Caller - 9/10 • Baby Driver - 9/10 • A Ghost Story - 9/10 • Raw - 9/10 • The Villainess - 9/10 Top 8 T.V Shows Of 2017: • Peaky Blinders S4 - 10/10 • Mr. Robot S3 - 10/10 • Stranger Things S2 - 9.5/10 • The Punisher S1 - 9.3/10 • American Gods S1 - 9.3/10 • Mindhunter S1 - 9.1/10 • Legion S1 - 9/10 • 13 Reasons Why - 9/10

'Lady Bird' Review: A Beautiful Coming Of Age Story!

Image
9.1/10 Portraying a likable rebel is a hard thing to do on screen. You have to set up why they are the way they are, and still be able to give them fleeting moments of empathy or just go all the way with no regrets whatsoever. Lady Bird takes a succesful stab at finding the balance from first time director Greta Gerwig in a relatively conservative way, but does a lot to make her stand out in this hilarious coming of age story. Lady Bird (Saoirse Ronan) is Catherine McPherson's given alias when she becomes bored and fed up of living her familiar life while in a Catholic High School in Sacramento. Her new persona makes her become more wandering, naturally gravitating to many different things and the dream of feeling more like herself, or rather finding herself in a New York college away from home. Saoirse Ronan does a great job as a rebellious yet empathetic teenager as her angst does feel like it comes from a genuine place. What I've always had issues in the past from c

'Three Billboards Outside Ebbing Missouri' Review: Everything About This Movie Shouts Oscar's!

Image
🌟 Three Billboards Outside Ebbing Missouri 🌟 Review 🌟 10/10 🌟 One Of The Best This Year 🌟 So sharply written that it cuts straight to the bone, the third movie from award-winning playwright Martin McDonagh is a dramedy that starts with cleverness and wit, then opens up into something so human. Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, features insane, lyrical dialogue that's so good that every single cast member, no matter how little screen time, gives a stunning performance. McDormand in particular hasn't been this good since her Oscar-winning turn in Fargo way back in 1996, this should take her to the oscars again alongside Co-star Sam Rockwell who also easily gave one of the best performances I have seen this year! Three Billboards never seems too clever for its own good. It's a stronger effort than McDonagh's In Bruges or even Seven Psychopaths; beneath the sparkling verbiage are genuine, complex emotions. There's hope here -- and love -- but also

Marvel And Hulu's 'Runaways' Episode 8 Review: 'Tsunami'

Image
🌟 Marvel's Runaways 🌟 Episode 8 Review 🌟 Tsunami 🌟 8.5/10 🌟 “Tsunami” opens up right where episode 7 left off, Victor being shot and the rest of PRIDE turning up to "save the day" without the help of Jonah. Molly is sent to live with a relative and Gert finally frees her pet dinosaur to meet with the rest of the gang. At the same time, Nico and Alex get into an argument as we discover why Alex didn’t go to Amy’s funeral. Back at the Stein house, the Yorkes try to revive Victor via the clinical way, but that was unsuccessful. PRIDE then contacts Frank. He tries to revive Victor using the miracle gloves he acquired from Jonah last episode, but that too fails. In a moment of desperation, Tina calls Jonah, who everyone was trying to avoid. When he enters the scene he takes out the sacrificial machine that brought him back to life. It then gets even more interesting and fun as he also tells PRIDE that in order to revive Victor, one of them must be sacrificed. Jonah

'Stronger' Review: Jake Gyllenhaal Is Just Wow!

Image
🌟 Stronger 🌟 Review 🌟 8.5/10 🌟 The story of stronger is inspirational and heart-warming. It realistically showed how difficult it is to deal with such tragedy, the time it takes to move on and the impact it has on friends and family. It also shows how we can draw beams of light from the darkest of places. What makes Stronger worth seeing are the performances from the entire cast. Jake Gyllenhaal, Tatiana Maslany and Miranda Richardson definitely stand out and deserve all the praise there is. Jake continues to show why he is one of the best actors of the decade with one of the best performances of the decade! I also have to agree with some of the fellow reviewers here when it comes to depicting American patriotism and the American way of dealing with things, it went a bit too far, especially towards the end. I have nothing against patriotism, I believe we should be all proud of our countries and roots but also stay within the limits of not going overboard. Again, worth se

'Peaky Blinders' Season 4, Finale Review: 'The Company' Was A Brilliant Finish To The Season!

Image
The season 4 finale opened with excitement and nerves building over the impending boxing match, with Lizzie telling the Shelby matriarchs about her being pregnant with Tommy's baby. Lucky woman, not really! As precocious gypsy boxer Bonny began toying with Goliath in the ring, Arthur was looking shifty in the audience, his eyes darting around, anticipating ambush. The last episode seemed to promise a big set-piece here but it never really came to pass, two lone attackers quite efficiently, even perfunctorily disposing of Arthur before being rounded up and killed by the gaggle of gang members still standing. After this scene swiftly moved on to Arthur's funeral and then the gang strategising the next move, I was feeling a little disappointed. Why did the boxing ring altercation feel so flat and devoid of intrigue? Why was the death of one of the show's biggest characters moved past with barely a tear shed? Fortunately, these questions would be answered as, with the

'Justice League' Review: It's Just Not The Avengers And That Editing! Wow!

Image
🌟 Justice League 🌟 Review 🌟 6/10 🌟 Thee Avengers are a team, they kick-ass and crack jokes along the way, yeah there films are not first-rate amazing, but that bond is there, they are a team, it doesn't feel forced and it just flows to a nice rhythm like an orchestra all hitting the right notes, resulting in a symphony of the highest level. Justice League on the other Hand are like a heavy metal band smashing out a beat no-one can follow, everything just felt like it was all thrown in and ridiculously rushed, resulting in a loud mess! Firstly, being a big Hollywood movie, there is no excuse what so ever for the poor editing of Superman's moustache, it's ridiculous to think they thought that was acceptable, it really made it so hard to focus on Superman, he was by far the best actor and character, but I just couldn't take him seriously at all, although it did bring a much needed comic relief to the film. I was really looking forward to seeing Ezra Miller a

We have finally learned who Riz Ahmed will be playing in Venom, and it's not Carnage!

Image
We have finally learned who Riz Ahmed will be playing in Venom, and it's not Carnage! For the last couple of months, me and all of you have been sat here guessing, reading rumours and assuming who Riz Will play, some said The Chameleon, some even said Sin-Eater, but most said Cletus Cassidy aka Carnage!! Eeerr!! We were all wrong! He will be playing Dr. Carlton Drake, the leader of the Life foundation who is responsible for forcibly extracting five seeds from the Venom symbiote, who later become known as Agony, Phage, Riot, Lasher, and Scream. The five symbiote offspring - and their older brother Carnage - have all been heavily rumored to be the primary antagonists in the upcoming Ruben Fleischer-directed spinoff, so Ahmed as Drake makes perfect sense now! What do you think?

Marvel And Hulu's 'Runaways' Episode 7 Review: 'Refraction' Ends With A Bang!!

Image
8.8/10 Jonah has arrived, but the latest Marvel’s Runaways, episode seven “Refraction,” is all about Chase’s family. Even though everything up to this point has been about bringing Jonah back to full power, the episode decided to instead shine the spotlight on Victor, Chase’s father. Audiences go back in time to when Victor met his wife Janet. From what we see, Victor has always been an intelligent man. We also see the birth of Chase. Victor is absolutely in love and very kind to his son, telling his wife that he understands now what new parents say — nothing else matters but your children. The Victor we now know is nothing like the one in “Refraction.” He has been working on gaining Chase’s love and trust again, sure. But he is still distant and cold. Not to mention, has a history of hitting Chase, as we see in another flashback. What changed him? “Refraction” may have provided the answer. We see that Jonah’s magical serum makes its recipients momentarily over-the-top happ

🌟 Pixar Week 🌟 A Bugs Life 🌟 Review 🌟 10/10 🌟

Image
10/10 You'll need to see this captivating movie twice to appreciate the scope of its visual wit and technological mastery. Oddly enough, this wasn't the only computer-animated movie about bugs to come out in the fall of 1998; Antz was released just a month before, and the difference between the two animated bug movies is epitomized by their lead characters. Antz has Z, voiced by Woody Allen as -- well -- Woody Allen, angst-ridden, in analysis, searching for individual identity in a world of conformity. A Bug's Life has Canadian actor/comedian Dave Foley providing his voice as Flik, an All-American ant-next-door type who is inventive, brave, and extremely loyal. Helped by outstanding voice talent, the rest of the movie's characters are quirky and endearing enough to make you forget they are computer-animated. Lending their voices are Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Phyllis Diller, Kevin Spacey, Richard Kind, David Hyde Pierce, and John Ratzenberger. Antz was largely brown,

'Breathe' Review: What A Beautiful Directorial Debut From Andy Serkis!

Image
8.5/10 Breathe has to be one of the most touching films I've seen in a while, you'd be hard hearted if you weren't moved close to tears as you see the life of Robin Cavendish fall apart, and that of the family around him. You also see the triumph of the human heart, how everything is done to get him home and how people suffering from disabilities (still to this day) want to live, not just survive, that is exactly what Robin does, until he knows it's time. Andrew Garfield gives a wonderful performance, as does Claire Foy. It would surprise me if there weren't BAFTA nominations. The biggest surprise for me was seeing the name of Andy Serkis, who made his directorial debut, I would have expected him to be associated with someone slightly more unusual, but it's a promising start to that side of his career. If I had one criticism it would be that the film was perhaps too long, it did lull a bit in the middle. This is one of the most heartwarming films I have

🌟 Pixar Week 🌟 Toy Story 🌟 Review 🌟 10/10 🌟

Image
There's not much to say about Toy Story that hasn't already been said, so I'm going to keep it short and sweet. There's plenty of cleverness throughout this film, and the story keeps moving at a great pace; there's truly never a dull moment in these toys' lives. This Pixar release was the first feature film animated entirely by computer. Although the dazzling technology is especially well suited to a story in which the major characters are made out of plastic, it's the unpretentious imagination and energy of the people behind the story and the outstanding vocal performances that make the movie an instant classic.

Marvel And Hulu's 'Runaways' Episode 6 Review: 'Metamorphosis' Is The Weakest Episode So Far, But Still Great!

Image
8.4/10 Marvel’s Runaways has been really successful so far. The opening five episodes have done a fantastic job at building the characters, exploring the relationships between them, and establishing the world that they live in. The season’s sixth episode while far from a bad outing for the show, was definitely the show’s most inconsistent so far. The episode started off very strong, with a flashback to the arrival of Jonah, the mysterious figure from the end of the last episode, and the first ever sacrifice committed by PRIDE. The scene explained that, as expected, all members of PRIDE is in some way indebted to Jonah, and the sacrifices, which we discovered turned matter into energy, were done as a way of repaying him, and that they have been taking place for the last 15 years. Most of the parents' stuff in this episode was pretty solid. The episode used a gala held by PRIDE to bring every character together in one location, and for the most part, it was an effective narr

James Franco's Best Performances! What A Character!

Image
This guy is judged very harshly by critics, mainly due to the fact that he does waste copious amounts of his talent on indie flicks no-one will watch (practice makes perfect). James Franco is one of the hardest working people in the business, he's an actor, director, screenwriter, poet, painter and also teaches at the likes of USC, UCLA, CalArts and NYU, in film and English department's. His work ethic is inspirational, he is always doing something to strengthen his knowledge and broaden his horizons. Franco never really received the credit he deserved until the recent release of his wonder project, 'The Disaster Artist' where he starred and directed as the legendary Tommy Wiseau. This movie is making waves all-round the globe as the world finally see, this man is Oscar worthy! I love everything about him, his strange persona, weird life choices, wacky paintings, humour, just everything really, the hole, this is me, if you don't like, fuck off! In no partic

'Mr. Robot' Season 3 Review: One Of The Best Dramas Around! WOW!

Image
1@0/1_0 Mr. Robot’s third season was its best. It moved with the swagger and confidence that made season one a massive hit, with the stronger character development that had marked season two. In season three, when a random associate of Elliot Alderson’s was threatened, it felt queasier, or when two of the supporting cast members hooked up, it felt more thrilling. And I completely agree with something I read in a recent article: Mr. Robot was only able to pull this off because almost nobody was paying attention to it. On the one hand, the show didn’t have any major twists this season for audiences to second guess. That probably played a part in its relative obscurity, since the twists drove much of the discussion in the first two years. But on the other, the conversation had also moved on. Mr. Robot felt downright revelatory when it debuted in 2015, with its tales of angry, alienated young men and a "so called" political system rigged even in the case of revolution.

'Beyond Skyline' Review: Suppose To Be Better Than The First!

Image
After rinsing multiplayer on COD WW2 for about 5 hours, I found that I was getting a little bored, so I thought I would put "The Punisher" back in his cage and find something to watch! This is when I stumbled across 'Beyond Skline' the second attempt at a bad movie! You might remember the first one 'Skyline' which was extremely poor, this one they were hoping would be significantly better, they roped in Frank Grillo and one of my favourite martial artists, Iko Uwais. The build-up to the film was solid, I watched all the trailers and everything and it looked solid! This is why I was so disapointed, the plot was full of inconsistencies and to be honest completely nonsensical, they tried to borrow from Pacific Rim but if failed miserably! The CGI was worse than the first! The dialogue was cheap and unrealistic -- lose a loved one, then cracking poor jokes 5 minutes later --, worse of all they completely underutilized Iko and failed to help us connect with

Pixar Week: 'Up' Review: There Are no Word's!

Image
🌟 Pixar Week 🌟 Up 🌟 Review 🌟 10/10 🌟 Pixar brought to life a multi-generational odd couple in a film that's visually stunning, surprisingly touching, and unsurprisingly delightful. After nine films (at the time of it's release in 2009), Pixar's legend was and is still very well known; it's the only studio with a perfect record both commercially (each of its releases has grossed more than $150 million) and critically and that record is still going strong 8 year's later. Up is no exception on the latter front, and considering the demand for family entertainment that is getting more demanding as the years go by, is there any wonder as to why it was a big hit money-wise, too. The beginning of the film is an unexpected tearjerker following the entire marriage -- from first sight to widowhood -- of adventurous-at-heart Carl and Ellie Fredricksen. But he bulk of the story, as the trailer promises, is Carl and Russell's amazing skyward journey to Paradise Fa

Pixar Week: 'The Incredibles' Review! Everyone's Favourite Family Of Superheros!

Image
🌟 Pixar Week 🌟 The Incredibles 🌟 Review 🌟 10/10🌟 Probably my favourite Pixar movie ever, alongside 'Up'. So, as my Little Man Harvey should be arriving in the coming month, I thought this a perfect oppurtunity to re-watch as many Pixar movies as I possibly can this coming week and review them for you lovely people! Truthfully, it's just another excuse for me to watch them again! What is most "incredible" and most engaging about this film is how credible it is. Writer-director Brad Bird and the brainiacs at Pixar climbed the Mount Everest of animation back in 2004 and created human characters as vivid and believable and utterly endearing as any who have ever appeared on film -- animation, live-action, and everything in between. In a witty prologue, we see the superheroes being interviewed. As Mr. Incredible leans toward the TV camera, he gets slightly out of focus. It must have been tempting to take advantage of the endless precision of computer imag

'Peaky Blinders' Season 4, Episode 5 Review: 'The Duel' Finally Brings Alfie Face To Face With Luca!

Image
Peaky Blinders season 4, Episode 5: 'The Duel' Review! We Finally Get What We've Been Waiting For: Alfie VS Luca! There was quality everywhere in last night's episode of Peaky Blinders! Steven knight started it off, showing exactly how to open an episode as we instantly pick up the action with Tommy being tailed by the mafia, culminating in a deadly shootout! After having his numbers decimated by the Peaky Blinders yet again, Luca was determined not to make the same mistake twice, seeking the help of Alfie Solomons who seemed much more reluctant to give up his friend and expecting a lot more in return. Tom Hardy absolutely stole the show, showing knavish insolence toward the Mafia that made you want to slap the nearest surface with delight (I did multiple times). "Add another tonne for being a cunt," will, I'm sure, make fans' list of favourite Peaky quotes. Alfie struck a hard bargain and yet Changretta didn't even attempt to negotiate,

Epic Trailer Alert! Ready Player One Is Filled With American Pop Colture Galore!

Image
New epic trailer alert! Keep an eye out for Overwatch's Tracer and many more cool characters! Based on Ernest Cline’s bestselling 2011 novel of the same name, the heavily-vfx hybrid film is set in 2045, with the world on the brink of chaos and collapse. The film has plenty of well-known animated characters, since the virtual Oasis is cluttered with the detritus of American pop culture. I spotted CGI versions of King Kong, Chucky, Lara Croft, Joker and Harley Quinn, Overwatch's Tracer and Street Fighter’s Chun-Li pop up in this new trailer, along with a bevy of other film, tv, and video game characters that were popular during the second part of the last century, and the first part of this one. ILM is the lead vfx house on the film, supported by Digital Domain and Territory. Ready Player One will be released in U.S. theaters by Warner Bros. on March 30, 2018.

'The Walking Dead' Season 8, Mid-Season Review: Ratings Are Hitting An All-Time Low, No Wonder Why?

Image
πŸ’€ The Walking Dead πŸ’€ Season 8, Mid-season Review πŸ’€ 7.8/10 πŸ’€ Where do I start with The Walking Dead, we are 8 episodes in and apart from a couple of scenes here and there, their has been nothing of note. We go into the first couple of episode's with all guns blazing, as Rick, the hilltop, Alexandria and the kingdom all decide to take the war straight to Negan's door. Ample bullets are wasted, but the plan is looking strong. Couple of episodes down the line, it's still looking confident, there drawn-out plan to stop the saviours is working, speeches poor from Ezekiel's mouth declaring none shall die and we shall win "on this day". Still, nothing of note has really happened apart from Negan loosing some saviours. Soo all of this planning and agonizing work is seeming a little pointless thus far, but there getting somewhere right? Wrong... We get to the last few episodes and we lose Shiva, Ezekiel is being a little wetbag because his act isn't

'The Disaster Artist' Review: This Is James Franco's Masterpiece! "Hi Mark"s All-Round!

Image
🎬 The Disaster Artist 🎬 Review 🎬 10/10 🎬 WOW! Just came out of the cinema and what started off as a rather traumatic night, ended in style and turned out to be a majestic one that I will never forget, that is all down to the brilliance of James Franco and the accidental, illusive genius that is Tommy Wiseau. James Franco gives an awe-inspiring performance as both director and star in this masterpiece about the making of the best-worst movie 'The Room'. This is definetly an Oscar worthy performance from James Franco, who captures every essence of Tommy perfectly, it was so refreshing to see one of my favourite comedic actors back at his best, showing the world once again what he is truly capable of after a run of mediocre indie flicks. This isn't his first time in the directors chair but it is his first in-front of a worldwide audience and I have to say the likes of Scorsese couldn't of done any better. He really was a perfect Tommy, there persona's, the

'The Room' Review: "Leave Your Stupid Comments In Your Pocket!"

Image
Even if "The Room" isn't the most technically polished, sharply-acted, or most coherently-plotted film in the history of cinema, I challenge you to find another movie that will give you as much pure pleasure. If anyone actually watched this movie and stopped with the notion that it was just a "bad movie" they have absolutely no sense of humor... This movie is not a "bad movie," this movie is by far the worst movie ever made, and it's absolutely hilarious... It's not like bad movie hilarious where there's some really funny parts (funny for being bad) and the rest is boring... It's absolutely non-stop... My mouth dropped open and literally stayed that way for most of the movie... The sex scenes, the pillow fight, the superb football toss, the completely nonsense drug dealer side story, the tedious San Fran landscape shots, the dialogue, "Hi, Doggy," "You're tearing me apart Lisa," "Leave your stupid com

'Deep Blue Sea' 2 Has Been Declared, R-Rated!!

Image
The killer shark genre has seen something of a resurgence lately, what with The Shallows and 47 Meters Down attempting the serious aquatic horror. And now, it’s resulted in the long-awaited sequel to Deep Blue Sea being pushed into production. The Darrin Scott-directed film has recently been rated R for “creature violence and gore” as well having some “ strong language.” At least they’re not worried about being too graphic and I respect the that decision to go all the way with this new effort. “We are a true sequel. We wanted to keep to the spirit of Deep Blue Sea and why people love it,” Matt Bierman, creative executive for Warner Bros, recently said. “The research that was used on the sharks in Deep Blue Sea 2 comes from the mythology and story line of the first movie. We have given the lead shark an intelligence and personality and hope the fans will embrace that as it really helps the story telling and the narrative in a way that first one didn’t. Deep Blue Sea 2 has a sli

Quentin Tarantino + Star Trek = Holy Sh**balls!

Image
Filmmaker Quentin Tarantino's proposed "Star Trek" movie is a go and it's reportedly intended to be rated R. Tarantino pitched his idea to J.J. Abrams and Paramount pictures for the next theatrical Star Trek with one main requirement, it has to be R-rated! Of course they accepted, who wouldn't? According to Deadline, if reports turn out to be true, the project would mark a first 'R-rated' movie for the Paramount Pictures franchise, boldly going where no Trekkie has gone before. The report also says screenwriters Mark L Smith, Lindsey Beer, and Drew Pearce are in the running to pen the script, with Smith as the apparent frontrunner. The plan is for Tarantino to direct. There have been 13 "Star Trek" movies thus far, beginning with 1979's "Star Trek: The Motion Picture" and most recently including a rebooted trilogy overseen by J.J. Abrams.

'Peaky Blinders' Season 4, Episode 4 Review: Things Take A 'Dangerous' Turn!

Image
As Arthur Shelby appeared next on Luca Changretti’s hitlist after getting mysteriously invited alone to a celebration, the Shelby’s prepared to counter their plan with armed perimeters and a plotted plan of attack. Only, Luca was one step ahead. Arthur’s plotted killing was merely a decoy to distract from their infiltration of Michael Gray’s residence in hospital. As he looked set to bite the bullet in a brilliantly tense sequence, Luca opens fire with an empty barrel; instilling fear while confirming his agreement with Polly’s proposed plan to sacrifice Tommy for their family’s protection. The return of Tom Hardy’s Alfie Solomons was brilliant and we'll written. Arriving with hilarious put-downs against Birmingham’s modest surroundings, Alfie brings a towering prize fighter to match Aberama’s son. While a relatively understated return in the context of the stakes at play, Tom Hardy brings a welcome dose of brutish, fiery weight to the conflict of Tommy and Luca. Now if th

Marvel And Hulu's 'Runaways' Episode 5 Review: 'Kingdom' Has Officially Made Me Fall In Love With This Show!

Image
10/10 Wow! Do you remember me saying, just two days ago, that it was just about the perfect time for Marvel's Runaways to pick up the pace... Well, I shit you not they have done just that and amplified it by about a thousand! Episode 5 was a Marvel in itself. We get to see the whole group of teens together, using there powers for the first real time -- with the exception of Gert and Alex -- and it's bloody awesome. I was a bit hesitant to see how they would handle the special effects side of it, but now thanks to 'Kingdom' I have complete faith in Hulu! Not only do we get to see the kids taking down there first bad-guy, but we get a deeper look into Alex's dad's past as it fills out his character and its just as shady as you first expected. Don't worry, that's not it, they didn't stop there because the parents can't bloody help themselves and are up to there weird ritual's again. Last but not least, they finally answer some key quest

Marvel and Hulu's 'Runaways' Episode 4 Review: 'Fifteen!' I'm loving where this is headed, now to up the pace a little!

Image
9/10 The episode kicks off with a remarkable intro sequence, as we flash back in time to Amy’s death. It seems to be a clear case of teen suicide, but Nico — freshly aware of her parents’ murderous habits — now believes it wasn't. She’s 100% convinced that the parents conspired to cover Amy’s murder, so, she seeks help from Alex before going any further. It doesn’t seem likely, given Tina’s continuing grief, but it does act as a means to create further divides between the parents and their children. Meanwhile, other secrets are being revealed. The Karolina / Chase subplot is a major one in this episode, with Karolina learning that Chase saved her from being raped (god I hate that word) back in Episode 1. Deciding to trust him, she takes a risk, and removes her snazzy bracelet once again, hoping they might figure out what it -- or shall I say she -- is . Meanwhile, Molly and Gert have a wonderful encounter with Old Lace. The plot of Marvel’s Runaways is tremendous fun, and

'Dunkirk' Review: Christopher Nolan is at it again with a visual masterpiece!

Image
From the opening scene, my heart beat to the drum of every bomb that hit the floor, just as loud and just as violent, it felt like it was going to burst out of my chest! What a start! The cinematography is a visual orgie for your eyes to feast on; all the soldiers lined up on the beach, the ship's sailing the seas, and Tom Hardy taking the sky in his Spitfire. As beautiful as all of it is, you cannot escape how tragically violent it all was and Hoyte van Hoytema captures that perfectly. The sound effects and visuals blended together perfectly to form a thrilling experience for the viewer. The hole score was brilliant, but you don't really expect any less from Christopher Nolan. All the cast were perfectly selected and there were great performances all-round. I was really impressed however, with Harry Styles' debut as an actor, he looked like a natural alongside Fionn Whitehead who was the protagonist of the flick. Minor petty problem; everytime the film cut from a

'The Foreigner' Review: Good Film But Why Underutilize Your Star!

Image
This thriller casts Chan in a bracing, dynamic role but then surprisingly wastes that potential as the story sidelines him, focusing instead on other characters in rooms explaining the plot to each other. The Foreigner could have been another Die Hard, with Chan at its center as the guy who gets things done. But the way it pans out, it feels more like he's been reluctantly tacked on and could have easily been removed, that for me is infuriating as everything Chan had to do in the flick was brilliant, wether that be kicking ass verbally, physically or emotionally, they should of definetly had more faith and that will be there downfall. This is not to disparage Brosnan, who gets a great deal more to do. Rather, the blame rests on the filmmakers, who don't seem to trust that Chan can carry a movie in a visual, nonverbal way. Moreover, the heavy dialogue that drives the movie can be numbingly expository and repetitive at times. Director Martin Campbell stages his scenes in a s

Two Tough Roles! Who takes the crown Freddie or Rami?

Image
So there's two series I love, with two characters that suffer from a mental disorder known as D.I.D (Dissociative identity disorder), played by two actors I absolutely adore; Rami Malek and Freddie Highmore, I need your help to not only find out who does the best portrayal, but who it suits the most, and who pulls it off better, because if I'm honest I'm rather stuck. It's no easy feat to pull this off especially when it's such a sensitive subject that needs to be treated with thee upmost care. In the Blue corner we have Freddie Highmore's portrayal of Norman/Norma Bates. I watched every single series of Bates Motel and Freddie constantly surprised, shocked and scared the heebie jeebies out of me, his portrayal was brilliant, one minute he's innocent, kindhearted Norman and then the next he's the possessive mother Norma who would kill anyone that threatens the illusion of her existence. When you watch it your literally shouting to the screen "

Leo's best films! And how I met Leo!

Image
Wow! This guy right! Leonardo DiCaprio! What a fu**ing actor, he has so much talent, charisma and energy he doesn't know what to do with it, it all literally oozes from him in every film he's ever been in. When he's on-form on-screen no-one can match his charisma, he really is a force to be reckoned with and all his hard work finally payed off with The Revenant. ••••• In no particular order here are all the film's I love (ones with star's are my favourites): ••••• • Titanic - Jack Dawson (1979) * The Revenant - Hugh Glass (2015) * The Wolf Of Wall Street - Jordan Belfort (2013) * Inception - Cobb (2010) Django Unchained - Calvin Candie (2012) * Catch Me If You Can - Frank Abagnale Jr. (2002) * The Departed - Billy Costigan (2006) • The Aviator - Howard Hughes (2004) • Romeo & Juliet - Romeo (1996) • Shutter Island - Teddy Daniel's (2010) • The Great Gatsby - Jay Gatsby (2013) * Blood Diamond - Danny Archer (2006) * Gangs Of New York - Amst

We now have a date for Tarantino's 9th film and it's not just any old date!!

Image
Quentin Tarantino‘s next movie still doesn't have a title, but it does now have a release date and a rather interesting one at that. The film, which is set in Los Angeles in 1969 against the backdrop of the Manson Family murders, has been given a 2019 release date that suggests a certain amount of confidence from Sony. Tarantino’s untiled ninth movie will open on August 9, 2019. Honestly, you can tell a lot about a movie from its release date. In this case, August is a time when you open a movie that can’t hang in the initial onslaught of the summer, but is still big and accessible enough to stand tall during a season dominated by blockbusters. With a rumored budget of just under $100 million and a possible cast of movie stars, this release date is a very clear move – this is being positioned as a blockbuster and a moneymaker, not an awards darling (although Tarantino’s Inglourious Basterds opened in August of 2009 and walked home with a handful of Oscars). But there’s a l

'Peaky Blinders' Season 4, Episode 3 Review: 'Blackbird' gives us alot of Arthur!

Image
Following last week’s threat from Luca Changretti, Tommy assembles the family to reveal his own Interesting course of action against the ever-present Mafia kingpin. This meeting however is missing Arthur, who’s too "fucking busy" back in the office. After some hilarious “I’m fucking busy” retorts as factory workers begin to rebel, he’s soon ambushed by two of the Italian "hitmen" in the basement after being lashed with paint. Paul Anderson generally owns the spotlight across this entire episode. His transformation from primal lunatic to a man coming to terms with relinquishing his gunning duties is oddly heartbreaking, especially as he takes the blame for John’s death in a heated exchange with Tommy. Is the show setting us up for the dramatic end of Arthur Shelby? Say it isn’t so!! Elsewhere, Adrien Brody continues to be a transfixing delight as Luca; shovelling scones into the mouths of henchmen following their hysterical complaints about spotted dick. It’

'Whiplash' Review: Teller gives the performance of his life!

Image
🎺 Whiplash 🎺 Review 🎺 10/10 🎺 The film depicts the relationship between an ambitious jazz student (Teller) and an aggressive, abusive instructor (Simmons). Teller's total investment in his performance means viewers are no longer just viewers; we're also witnesses, and it's this intensity that makes writer-director Damien Chazelle's film so memorable. We pay little mind to its shortcomings: the unnecessary romance (which fails to flesh out Andrew but does expose his own cruelty) and the unfortunate impenetrability of Fletcher's (played brilliantly by Simmons) motives for his madness. Whiplash is both a refreshing, respectful ode to the beauty that is jazz music and a very compelling look at the horror that is a mentor-mentee relationship gone distressingly awry. There's a particular scene in Whiplash when Andrew is hunched over the drums, aching to get through what may be the most important performance of his life. His hands are moving on their own s

'Kingsman: The Golden Circle' Review

Image
⌚ Kingsman: The Golden ⌚ Review ⌚ 8.4/10 ⌚ This sequel to Kingsman: The Secret Service has just as much slick, inventive, crazy comic action and is just as much fun. But while it's equally violent, it also shows far more empathy toward human loss. Matthew Vaughn returns to the director's chair, co-writing the screenplay with Jane Goldman; though their story is convoluted and just a tad bit insane, it more or less sticks together and follows a pleasing flow. It even manages a sly bit of political commentary on the "war on drugs" which was pretty cool. Set pieces, including a runaway gondola lift and Poppy's 1950s-inspired hideout, are outrageously cool. Vaughn's direction is the opposite of Hollywood's usual shaky-cam tendencies; it's graceful and fluid, with dance-like movement in the heat of battle. In the previous movie, scenes involving the brutal deaths of dozens of people were played for laughs and entertainment. But in Kingsman: The Golden

Quentin Tarantino has finally let us know the premise of his ninth film!

Image
As of yet we still don’t have a title for Quentin Tarantino‘s next project, but earlier this week, we finally learned its premise (possibly to stop people from calling it his “Charles Manson movie“). We also still don’t know who will play the two leads (though Brad Pitt, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Tom Cruise are reportedly all possibilities), but we now know more about the characters they could play. The film will revolve around an actor who’s had some success in television, and is hoping to expand into movies, and he’s accompanied by his stunt double (who’s looking for the same thing). It’s all set in Hollywood in 1969 as the Manson Family and the murder of Sharon Tate (likely to be played by the beautifully talented Margot Robbie) take place concurrently. who's getting excited?

'The Punisher' Spoiler-Free Season 1 Review: an excellent and realistic rendering of a Marvel comic vigilante!

Image
πŸ’€ The Punisher πŸ’€ Spoiler-Free Season Review πŸ’€ 9.3/10 πŸ’€ 'The Punisher,' as portrayed sublimely by Jon Bernthal, is an excellent and realistic rendering of a Marvel comic vigilante. Finally, someone really took the time to develop a character that we can relate to as a human, as someone with real PTSD, and someone who believably could pursue a personal war against the corporate, government douche bags who destroyed his life. Bernthal does an excellent acting job, portraying a man haunted by the visions of his family being murdered, and a man struggling to reconcile with the visions haunting him. His co-partner, and I.T freak, Micro aka David Lieberman (Ebon Moss-Bachrach), is also a man with a mission to right the wrongs inflicted on him, and together, they play off of one another very well. The action scenes are simple, yet brutal and compelling, they are just enough to add balance to a story that draws one deeply into the lives of these two men who were betrayed by

Jake Gyllenhaal: One of the best actors of this generation!

Image
Where do I begin with Jake fooking Gyllenhaal... he is among my favourite actors of all time and is there really any wonder as to why? No, you need not wonder, all you need to do is randomly select almost any of his films and i gaurentee every single one you choose (apart from maybe Prince of Persia) will blow you away. What I love about him is his sincere love and passion for the craft of acting, and his Tenacity and willingness to work hard in every single film that he features in, from his little bit parts to his major roles, you can always see how much this guy puts in, especially physically and emotionally, I love that, and this is why I know I will watch every film that ever comes out where Gyllenhal has played a part! Here's a few of my favourites! (Performance based in no particular order): • Prisoners - Det. Loki (2013) • Donnie Darko - Donnie Darko (2001) • Nightcrawler - Louis Bloom (2014) • Southpaw - Billy "The great" Hope (2015) • Stronger - Jef

'I Saw The Devil' Review: Absolutely brutal!

Image
πŸ‘Ή I Saw The Devil πŸ‘Ή Review πŸ‘Ή 9.2/10 πŸ‘Ή Directed by Kim Jee-Woon Starring: Choi Min-sik, Lee Byung-hun, In-seo Kim, San-ha Oh, Cheon Ho-Jin and Moo-Seong Choi Although the core story has been done before in other revenge movies, this one truly does take take the cake. The movie messes with your mind from scene to scene, without letting go and thats without the gore scenes, they are so brutally done, no shying away at all, rather the opposite actually they embrace it. The characters are so brilliantly brought to life, you literally watch them transform in front of your eyes, especially Kim Soo-hyeon (Byung-hun Lee), the lead character who you watch transform into a monster in order to stop thee monster. The movie focuses on what revenge can bring out in a good man, and it is raw, cruel and at times astonishingly realistic. The movie clocks almost 2 hours and a half, but despite the length being unusually long, you will not be looking at your watch and thinking "it sh

'To Kill A Mockingbird' Review: Classic!

Image
🌟 To Kill A Mockingbird 🌟 Review 🌟 10/10 🌟 Directed by Robert Mulligan Starring: Gregory Peck, Mary Badham, Robert Duvall, Brock Peters and Phillip Alford Two parallel story lines follow Atticus' strenuous decision to defend an African-American man (Brock Peters) who has been accused of raping a white woman and the two young Finches' fascination with their mysterious -- and rumored-to-be-dangerous -- recluse neighbor, Boo Radley (The creepiest Robert Duvall has ever been). Atticus and his children Scout (Mary Badham) and Jem (Phillip Alford) face disapproval and worse from those who believe the accused is guilty, with or without a trial. This Hollywood masterpiece offers crucial lessons about prejudice and the fears that motivate it. Gregory Peck's Academy Award-winning performance anchors To Kill a Mockingbird , which is finely crafted with a perfectly balanced script by Horton Foote. A paragon of decency who stands for tolerance and nonviolence at all costs
