Marvel And Hulu's 'Runaways' Episode 7 Review: 'Refraction' Ends With A Bang!!

8.8/10

Jonah has arrived, but the latest Marvel’s Runaways, episode seven “Refraction,” is all about Chase’s family. Even though everything up to this point has been about bringing Jonah back to full power, the episode decided to instead shine the spotlight on Victor, Chase’s father.

Audiences go back in time to when Victor met his wife Janet. From what we see, Victor has always been an intelligent man. We also see the birth of Chase. Victor is absolutely in love and very kind to his son, telling his wife that he understands now what new parents say — nothing else matters but your children.

The Victor we now know is nothing like the one in “Refraction.” He has been working on gaining Chase’s love and trust again, sure. But he is still distant and cold. Not to mention, has a history of hitting Chase, as we see in another flashback. What changed him? “Refraction” may have provided the answer.

We see that Jonah’s magical serum makes its recipients momentarily over-the-top happy. Even Molly’s dad was extra hyper, though it didn’t last for too long. But with a larger dose, we can see why Jonah has kept up his happy attitude for so long. It could be very possible that the serum is to blame for his abusive behavior. Not that it matters so much now since he may be dead.

Another important thing to note is Chase’s message from the future. Chase was clearly warning his dad not to attack him with the Fistigons so Janet wouldn’t shoot him. But why is Chase apologizing? Maybe he knows Victor’s anger problems were not Victor’s fault.
