'The Commuter' Review: Typical Film, Typical Neeson But A Good Action!

Image
⭐ The Commuter ⭐ Review ⭐ 6.9/10 ⭐ The Commuter' is a stylish, well produced action movie, but, as with many other films in this genre, it has a plot that fails to stand up to scrutiny. Far-fetched would be an understatement - it all feels very 'make it up as you go along.' Plot aside, 'The Commuter' is a decent piece of entertainment, thanks largely to the high production value and Liam Neeson's compelling performance as the lead character. If you can zone out of the story and enjoy the fights, explosions and everything else that comes with a Liam Neeson action movie, then 'The Commuter' is a passable action flick, but nothing that hasn't already been done before, especially by Neeson.

Four Films You Need To See On The Big Screen This April!

Image
Four films you need to see in the cinema this April! In order of what I'm most excited for! 1) Avengers: Infinity War War is coming. But don’t worry; just about every single character to strap on spandex is down for the challenge. As are Anthony and Joe Russo, who brought us Captain Americas: Civil War and Winter Soldier. Word to the wise: spring for the refillable popcorn. This one’s longer than two and a half hours. (27th April) 2) A Quiet Place It was only a matter of time before Hollywood’s sweethearts starred in a film together. John Krasinski directs and stars opposite his wife, Emily Blunt, in a supernatural thriller about a family who must stay quiet to avoid a force that attacks at any sound. Blunt’s character can’t scream, but you sure can. (2nd April) 3)You Were Never Really Here Things get violent—like, ball-peen hammer to the head violent—in Lynne Ramsay’s sadistic Cannes winner. The epic Joaquin Phoenix stars as a veteran killer for hire whose mo

'Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind' Review: Carrey And Winslet At There Best!

Image
⭐ Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind ⭐ Review ⭐ 9/10 ⭐ This fabulously imaginative and deliciously loopy romance is one of the sweetest movies I have ever seen from the magnificently twisty mind of writer Charlie Kaufman. He plays with the themes of identity, time, memory, and attraction in a slightly off-kilter world that seems oddly home-like and familiar. Shot in a style that is both gritty and dreamy, the movie's insinuatingly casual tone gently nudges the concepts along so it almost begins to make more sense than every-day reality. Carrey and Winslet risk making their characters as maddening to us as they are to each other and are ultimately as irresistible, too. Mark Ruffalo, Tom Wilkinson, and Kirsten Dunst are impeccable, providing a bittersweet counterpoint of imperfection and longing. Director Michel Gondry matches Kaufman's script with understated but brilliantly original imagery of memory and forgetting which alternatively makes it a film worth watching!

'Game Over, Man!' Review: Having A Sh** Day? Need To Laugh? 👇

Image
⭐ Game Over, Man! ⭐Spoiler-Free Review ⭐ 7.6/10 ⭐ Last night I watched one of the most outrageously funny films I have seen in quite some time. From the creators of Workaholics comes this dangerous new comedy, 'Game Over, Man!' Yes, I have seen the ratings and I know what most people think, but, most comedies nowadays get so much stick because there taken way to seriously. Within the first ten minutes that's what I found myself doing and I wasn't really enjoying the film because of it, but then, I just let go and started to take it for what it was, a film that's here to provide us with laughs, wether that be at it or with it, once I realised that I started to have a whole lot of fun. From start to finish the film is crammed with jokes and the more it goes on the more ridiculous and far-fetched it gets, each scene is layered with madness and stupidity, so, if you are one of those people who takes films to seriously, stay away, on the other hand, if your all

NewsFest: The Most Interesting News This Week!

Image
NewsFest: So as usual, I surfed the web to find this week's most interesting news to me and hopefully to you too and here's what I found: • Tom Hardy looks mean AF as he released the first picture (on sunday) of him in the role of Al Capone for upcoming biopic 'Fonzo!' • The Season Premiere of Ridley Scott and AMC's new horror series, 'The Terror' was released yesterday and it's receiving rave reviews all-round. "One of the scariest shows in years" (Collider), "The Terror arrives to turn your blood to ice" (Den Of Geek). • According to Variety, British Comedian, actor and avid Arsenal supporter, Jack Whitehall will join Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt in Disney's 'Jungle Cruise.' • According to series producer, Shawn Levy, Stranger Things season 3 will take place close to one year after the events of season two in the summer of 1985 with 'Back To The Future' being a major reference. He also said it will f

'Insidious: The Last Key' Review: Recycled Trash!

Image
⭐ Insidious: The Last Key ⭐ Review ⭐ 4/10 ⭐ The Last Key is filled with recycled ideas and imagery galore from the previous Insidious films. Characters make a decision in one scene, only to inexplicably decide the exact opposite in the following scene. Most of the suspenseful scenes feel as if they were borrowed straight from the previous entries in the franchise (or from other similar series like the Conjuring or Ouija), only just not done as well. Worst of all, The Last Key seems to feel the need to needlessly remind you of the other Insidious films with needless flashbacks and reincorporations. The humor is often misplaced, pacing is disjointed, and the acting is rather mediocre, but at least the score will be sure to remind you of when you're supposed to be scared. Despite some cool looking sets, there is little to enjoy in this film. The Last Key is a bland entry in a tired series which fails it's genre.

'All The Money In The World' Review: Very Intriguing!

Image
⭐ All The Money In The World ⭐ Review ⭐ 8/10 ⭐ What would you do if you had all the money in the world? How far would you go to save a loved one? What is your price? These are all questions you may find yourself asking whilst indulging yourself with Ridley Scott's newest flick 'All The Money In The World.' When the film opened I wasn't really sure what to expect as we skipped back and forth through time with little to no warning as to why, but then, about 20 mins in, it unravelled itself and started to make alot more sense. I found the whole concept quite thrilling and very intriguing and that was before I found out it was based on true events. I mean could you imagine knowing your grandfather was not only the richest man in the world but in all of history and he wouldn't pay your 17 million ransom to save your life, better yet, knowing he fucking haggled his way right down to about 2.9 million making you lose an ear in the process. 16 year old John Paul

'Black Panther' Review: Coogler Brings Out The Best In Jordan!

Image
⭐ Black Panther ⭐ Review ⭐ 8.7/10 ⭐ Ryan Cooglers third outing In the directors chair is masterful. Black Panther is unlike any other superhero flick, featuring outstanding acting, breathtaking art direction, memorable action sequences and surprising depth. It's that depth (of character, storyline and relevancy) that makes Black Panther excel. Boseman proves yet again why he is the Perfect Black Panther and the true king of Wakanda with a sterling performance, he is backed up mostly by a female cast; ass-kicking bodyguard Okoye (Danai Gurira), ex girlfriend Nakia (Lupita Nyong'o), his mother Ramonda (Angela Bassett), and his genius younger sister, scientist/tech inventor Shuri (Letitia Wright). Each of them contributes much to the story, with Gurira's spear-wielding Okoye the movie's clear scene-stealer! Both villains were impressive, Andy Serkis was hilarious, he brought a much needed dose of humour and ultimately introduced us to the main man himself, Michael

Andrew Garfield stars here as Sam, a shaggy-looking disenchanted 33-year-old who discovers a mysterious woman, Sarah (Riley Keough), frolicking in his apartment’s swimming pool. Shia LaBeouf Is Making And Starring In A Film Based On His Troubled Life!

Image
I have just come across some of the coolest news so far this year, well, for me anyway... Shia LaBeouf has announced that he will be making a movie based on and around his own life in which he will be playing his 'law-breaking, alcohol-abusing' father. The upcoming film will be titled Honey Boy, which was actually LaBeouf's childhood nickname. I have followed Shia's life story for years, he is genuinely one of the most interesting celebrities in the business. He rose to fame as a child star in Even Stevens but he then had a few troubled years; he has most recently re-emerged from a period of silence following his arrest in 2017 for racially charged expletive-laced disorderly conduct in Georgia, US. Lucas Hedges, who was Oscar-nominated for Manchester By The Sea, will play Shia opposite the actor, who will play his own father.

'Save Me' Season 1 Review: One Of The Best British Shows I Have Seen In Quite Some Time!

Image
⭐ Save Me ⭐ Season 1 Spoiler-Free Review ⭐ 8.5/10 ⭐ Last night I finished watching Lennie James' new series 'Save Me' which is based on an estranged father who sets out on a tireless quest to find his missing daughter who was kidnapped, as he searches high and low for his daughter he discovers more about himslef and those around him than he could of ever imagined. I have to say its one of the best british series i have seen for a while. The whole cast is perfect and the acting is nothing short of superb, Especially from Lennie James, Stephen Graham, Alice May Feetham and Suranne Jones who all really put in powerful performances. Episode 1 starts off a little slow but stick with it because as each episode roles by the series unfolds into something special. The final 2 episodes are extremely tense and gripping to watch and the bond between Lennie James and virtually everyone that surrounds him (especially Stephen Grahams character) is something special to witness on

'Requiem For A Dream' Review: A Harsh Reality, Perfectly Told!

Image
⭐ Requiem For A Dream ⭐ Review ⭐ 8.4/10 ⭐ There's no question this is a movie of extremes; Aronofsky uses punchy editing and camera tricks galore to convey the rush of drugs of the characters, right down to the cellular level. By the end the protagonists are literally curled in fetal positions, robbed of everything by their addiction. The conundrum for filmmakers trying to depict the seductive power and destruction wrought by drugs is walking that fine line between making "getting high" look too good on one hand, and on the other hand going too far with the Message stuff and preaching a finger-wagging sermon. But the skillful, surreal camerawork, and the sympathetic characters -- none of them want to be your typical Al Capone, they just want to be happy -- make this more than just the proverbial "classroom scare film." Perhaps the most important story, in fact, is Sarah Goldfarb's, who breaks no law in her addiction to amphetamines (diet pills) but en

'Manhunt: Unabomber' Season Review: Check Out This Brilliant 8-Part Drama, It's Now On Netflix!

Image
⭐ Manhunt: Unabomber ⭐ Season Review ⭐ 8.5/10 ⭐ Moving back in forth in time and bringing a complicated investigation to life, this brilliant eight-part drama based on true events, paints a gripping picture of men obsessed. Ted Kaczynski’s (Paul Bettany) obsessions, of course, were explained in long media accounts of the criminal and his crimes, as well as his letters and manifesto. James Fitzgerald (Sam Worthington), one of the profilers the FBI hire, emerges as a complicated and tortured man. The same insight and leaps of reasoning that allow him to understand the Unabomber are what connects him too closely to the case. We see at the beginning of the series that he has become a Unabomber-like figure himself: a recluse in the woods. What changed the loving family man and cop (who we soon meet in one of the drama's time jumps) into this rough mountain man? The answers are teased out intriguingly slowly, as we meet the cops on Kacynski's case and see how the FBI closed in

'Annihilation' Review: Alex Garland Is Proving Himself To Be A Great Director And A True Visionary!

Image
⭐ Annihilation ⭐ Review ⭐ 9.2/10 ⭐ I love a good mind-bending Sci-Fi and the feeling I had whilst watching Annihilation was unlike anything I have had in quite some time, perhaps since seeing Interstellar in 2014. The wide range of tone and emotion this movie can display is staggering. I went from being invested in the intellectual elements of this sci-fi feature, to beyond terrified of the creatures that inhabit "The Shimmer", to fascinated by the mind-blowing choices the film makes in the third act. In every sense, Annihilation is a unique piece of art. The main story sees Natalie Portman's 'Lena' team with Dr. Ventress (Jennifer Jason leigh), Anya (Gina Rodriguez), Sheppard (Tuva Novotny), and Josie (Tessa Thompson) in an attempt to figure out why no-one returns after visiting The Shimmer. It's both a science fiction adventure film, as well as a psychological horror/thriller and all genres are equally as compelling to see play out here. While it ca

Good VS Bad: 'A Quiet Place' VS 'The Outsider!'

Image
Good VS Bad I have been constantly hearing about two films these past couple of days, one has been highly praised all-round and one has been completely torn apart, both of which I have not seen. This gave me the idea to do, Good VS Bad. So, every month I will choose two films that I haven't seen, one good and one bad and I will give you the low-down! Good: 'A Quiet Place' is being held in very high regards after its premiere Friday night. I have read about 4 or 5 different reviews since and they have really sold it to me, I'm intrigued, some were saying; "it will make you scream" and its "The years first truly scary crowd-pleaser" and apparently leaving audiences shrieking at how scary it is. Rated at 100% on rotten tomatoes (at the moment), the husband and wife led film is sure to be a pleaser! Bad: Well is it any surprise that this flick is a Netflix Flick, No, but it is a bit of a surprise that Leto is starring in it, yes. 'The Ou

'Valerian And The City Of A Thousand Suns' Review: Visualy Stunning But Flawed!

Image
⭐ Valerian And The City Of A Thousand Suns ⭐ Review ⭐ 7.4/10 ⭐ Adapted from Pierre Christin and Jean-Claude Mézières long-running French sci-fi comics series Valérian And Laureline. Luc Besson creates a stunning visual feast. Besson's attention to detail is immaculate. And that along side the quirky dialog's between Laureline and Valerian are what keep this film afloat. I might be in the minority, but I prefer my films to be lengthy. However in this case, Valerian feels overstuffed trying to add more depth to the story at every turn. This film might have benefited from a shorter run time. Personally the biggest surprise was Laureline (Delevingne), her character is what kept my interest throughout the film and her acting was actually on point. As someone who was skeptical about her casting, I'm glad to be proved wrong. Not saying it's her breakout performance, Just saying she's improving and perhaps she might have a future as an actress. Everyone deserves a seco

'Fruitvale Station' Review: Powerful Debut From Black Panther's Coogler!

Image
⭐ Fruitvale Station ⭐ Review ⭐ 8.7/10 ⭐ What a powerful achievement from director Ryan Coogler. His first film of three (Creed, Black Panther), Fruitvale Station is a cinematic force, it's poignant yet so beautiful and it's speaks volumes. This film will literally cause you to feel almost every emotion in the book; happy, sad, frustrated, angry, and shocked, the most being angry. With such a short runtime it was surprising to see how well Coogler managed to get the audience to connect with the characters in this flick, especially Oscar. Coogler presented this film as a nuanced and carefully balanced character study filled with small, poetic moments that enhanced the viewing experience. I was sick with rage as I struggled to endure the scene that was remade from real footage of that tragic night, I wanted to cry but I was so angry at how Oscar and his friends were treated I couldn't shed a tear. I FUCKING HATE racism and I don't have much love for cops, so when

'Jumanji: Welcome To The Jungle' Review: Not To Shabby!

Image
⭐ Jumanji: Welcome To The Jungle ⭐ Review ⭐ 8.2/10 ⭐ Jumanji 2 relies almost entirely on its star power, and luckily enough it has that in spades with the likes of Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, Jack Black, Karen Gillan, and Nick Jonas. Where the charm resides, though, is the actors playing against their types through the means of body-switching from real-world people to video game avatars: The Rock embodying a nerdy hypochondriac, Hart an all-star jock, Gillan a shy insecure reject, and the most brilliant of them all, Black housing a she's-all-that pretty girl. Together our four teenage protagonists get sucked into the video game incarnation of Jumanji, a jungle land that is threatened from the typical video game threat, and our heroes must do the usual video game tasks in order to beat the game and return to the real world, all without getting killed in-game, which will get them killed in real life if they lose there three lives. The film thematically treads the same sort of

NewsFest: All of Today's Freshest Movie News!

NewsFest: From Shazam updates to Tommy Wiseau's new film, I have it all! • Patty Jenkins confirms that Kristen wigg will star as the villain 'cheetah' in wonder woman sequel. This could be very interesting! • Todd Phillips and Martin Scorsese are using 'The Killing Joke' for source material for there Joker origin movie. According to The Wrap, the film will portray Batman’s arch-nemesis as a failed 1980s comedian who develops the Joker persona after bombing with audiences. • Tommy Wiseau and Greg Sestero are collaborating with each other again in there new film called 'Scary Love.' Check the Trailer on YouTube. Will it be another cult classic? • Fans have finally been given there first look at Zachary Levi in full costume for 'Shazam' and I have to say it's the most comic accurate costume since Reeves' Superman. Not only do we get our first look at Captain Marvel, we also get our first look at one of his most powerful adversaries, D

'Brigsby Bear' Review: What A Pleasant Surprise!

Image
⭐ Brigsby Bear ⭐ Review ⭐ 8.6/10 ⭐ I went into Brigsby Bear expecting it to be your typical stoner-flick... I was completely misguided, not only does it supply you with ample giggles and have a strong case of the cutes, it's genuinely imaginative and sweetly likeable. This is one of them flicks where pretty much everything revolves around the main character, James Pope (Kyle Mooney) who was kidnapped when he was a child and forbidden to go outside due to the "poison air." His days consisted of chores around the house and watching and studying the TV show Brigsby Bear. While he's in the house it felt like a flick based in the 80/90's and then as soon as he's rescued by the FBI it's like he walked through a door straight to 2017 and i found that rather clever. James is such an endearing fellow -- unguarded and kind -- that it's difficult not to like him and literally throughout the film you do not come across anyone who doesn't end up liking

'The Greatest Showman' Review: Jackman Is A Delight!

Image
⭐ The Greatest Showman ⭐ Review ⭐ 8.2/10 ⭐ Exuberant performances propel this musical biopic, which isn't perfect but does occasionally delight thanks to its stellar cast, led by the inimitable Jackman. There's inherent value in watching the talented Jackman sing and get his boogie on, and he's an ideal fit for playing the titular "greatest showman" on earth. The Greatest Showman doesn't really delve into some of the uglier aspects of Barnum's life (like all the hoaxes he was accused of committing), but it does manage to entertain audiences with catchy original songs by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, the award-winning lyricists for La La Land. The soundtrack is in many ways more remarkable than the movie itself, with half a dozen showstopping anthems like Jackman's "The Greatest Show" and "A Million Dreams" and the romantic "Rewrite the Stars" -- a lovely duet by Efron and Zendaya. The songs will stay in your head lon

Brad Pitt Has Joined Leo In Tarantino's 'Once Upon A Time In Hollywood!'

Image
Late last week, Tarantino finally revealed the title of his 9th film, and it’s a direct homage to Sergio Leone: Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. This news also came with confirmation that Brad Pitt will be working alongside Leonardo DiCaprio as his co-star, DiCaprio will be playing former western TV star Rick Dalton, while Pitt will play his stunt double best friend Cliff Booth. The highly publicized connection to the summer of 1969 Manson murders is that Dalton’s next door neighbor is future victim Sharon Tate. Sony Pictures will release Once Upon a Time in Hollywood on August 9th, 2019, the 50th anniversary of the murder of Sharon Tate and her friends. These 3 all in the same room, god I need to find where there filming!

'Corpse Bride' Review: Welcome To The Wonderful MInd Of Burton!

Image
💀 Corpse Bride 💀 Review 💀 8.6/10 💀 When a shy groom practices his wedding vows in the inadvertent presence of a deceased young woman, she rises from the grave assuming he has married her. This movie is so self-consciously clever. Victor is an exceedingly empathetic sort, but he is, after all, a bit of a wimp who spends so much time trying to please everyone else that he loses sight of what he wants for himself. Corpse Bride follows Victor's coming to terms with himself, as he figures out what he does want. Lucky for him, Victoria and the Bride are both very understanding. And lucky for us, the stop-motion animation is absolutely delightful. Though the story runs thin quickly, the visual show remains airy and charming, providing us with a perfect first-hand-view into the weird but wonderful mind of Tim Burton.

'The Wolf Of Wall Street' Review: What A Sh** Ton Of Fun!

Image
⭐ The Wolf Of Wall Street ⭐ Review ⭐ 9/10 ⭐ Director Martin Scorsese, assisted by his longtime editor Thelma Schoonmaker, keeps up an astoundingly intoxicating pace for nearly three hours. He draws on his previous movies GoodFellas and Casino for the template of The Wolf Of Wall Street, packing in many outrageous details behind a criminal organization over an epic running time. A huge cast, including perhaps most memorably Matthew McConaughey, helps out with small, potent performances. The difference here is that The Wolf of Wall Street may be the funniest movie Scorsese has ever made. Every few minutes it hurls something so shocking and high-spirited that laughter can be the only response. Yet the movie's monstrous energy seems to be fueled by something both exciting and rotten. The whole cast is sensational, Jonah Hill gave the best performance of his career as thee charismatic money-hungry sidekick Donnie Azoff. Margot Robbie as the sexy Dutchess, Naomi Lapaglia is jaw-dr

Best Worst Movies: #1 'The Room!'

Image
Best Worst Movies: #1 'The Room!' It’s arguably the best worst movie ever made, being one of the longest-running theatrical films with constant midnight screenings being held primarily in Los Angeles, along with other cities nationwide, in which audiences interact with the film in the same vein as The Rocky Horror Picture Show. Whether viewed as an intentional black comedy or a romantic drama, writer/director/producer/star Tommy Wiseau’s cult classic The Room‘s atrocious dialogue, bizarre plotting, bad CGI and terrible performances have made it one of the best films to rewatch strictly for laughs. The making of the film was detailed by star Greg Sestero in the non-fiction book The Disaster Artist, which was recently adapted into a wonderful film with James Franco directing and starring as the mysterious creator of the film -- check out my review. Entertainment Level: 100% My Rating: 1/10
