'Cape Fear' Review: De Niro gives his creepiest performance to date in this 90's classic!

Image
🌟 Cape Fear 🌟 Review 🌟 8.6/10 Directed by Martin Scorsese Starring: Robert De Niro, Nick Nolte, Jessica Lange, and Juliette Lewis This brutal, violent and suspenseful thriller combines a scorching performance by Robert De Niro, sumptuous location photography, and a powerful script that raises disturbing questions about the already questionable religion, sex, and class distinctions in our so-called classless society. At first glance Max Cady seems to be just another sadistic creep, a rapist and convict out to torment and humiliate a nice, dysfunctional upper-middle class family. But gradually it becomes apparent that things are not what they seem. The wholesome, "superior" middle class family is rotten with corruption, while the vicious, "psychotic" ex-con is a man of extraordinary courage, intelligence, and spiritual strength. Even his most horrible acts of violence (to a certain extent) are connected to the corrupt and self-serving behavior of his &q

'Ingrid Goes West' Review: Surprise hit! Watch out for social media!

Image
Ingrid Goes West is a tour De force, and that is all down to a perfect cast you wouldn't first think to put together; crazy stalker Aubrey Plaza (Ingrid), the not so perfect Elizabeth Olsen (Taylor), and the rather hilarious batman-obsessed O'Shea Jackson Jr. (Dan Pinto). Ingrid is a social media STALKER who wants to find a best-friend, but not just a best-friend, she wants to become them, wear what they wear, shop where they shop, eat where they eat, and what they eat (wether she likes it or not), she wants to live there life, and this is where Taylor (Elizabeth Olsen) comes in, Ingrid presumes that Taylor has somehow found the secret to living blissfully (through her perfect Insta pics). While most people likely won't make Ingrid's mistake of assuming that a simple friendly comment on one of her photos means she's actually made a new friend, social media addicts (and who among us isn't at least a little addicted?) will recognize her all-consuming hunger

'Stranger Things' Season 2 Review......

Image
🌟Stranger Things Season 2 🌟 Minor Spoiler Review 🌟 9.5/10 🌟 So I've finally finished Stranger Things Season 2 and apart from episode 7 I don't really have any bad "things" to say about it, in fact, it was just as enthralling as the first if not more so, but in different ways. Personally I feel that the first season was alot darker, for example; eleven snapped god knows how many necks, plus the hole presence of the demigorgans and Doctor Brenner which just made it feel rather frightful. But... this for me isn't a problem as this series wasn't meant to be as dark, this was mainly made to explore deeper into the upside down, introducing some new characters, good and bad, give us some answers and just generally expand there universe while simultaneously getting us ready for what's still to come. I was rather intrigued by all of our new characters; MadMax (Sadie Sink) and Bob The Brain (Sean Astin), they seemed to mesh really well with the existing

My top ten 90's flick's!

Image
I loved the 80's and 90's, they were 2 brilliant decades for movies and brought us some truly amazing films, I have done my favouirte 80's films already so without further ado here's my top 10, 90's movies: 1) Pulp Fiction 1994 (9.7/10) - My favouirte Tarantino film, and needs no explanation to why it's first 2) Goodfellas 1990 (9.7/10) - Probably the best gangster mob film I have ever seen, and Pesci is just an absolute legend 3) Terminator 2: Judgement Day 1991 (9.6/10) - Best of them all this film was a big part of my teens, I will be back! 4) Leon 1994 (9.4/10) - Another big film from my teens courtesy of my legendary grandad who showed me most of these greats! 5) Con Air 1997 (9.5/10) - Nicholas Cages' best film hands down and Steve Buscemi still creeps me out! 6) Schindlers List 1993 (9.3/10) - One of the most powerful films in the business and I love all 3 hours of it! 7) Pretty Woman 1990 (9.2/10) - This was definetly my top guilty

'The Glass Castle Review: Received mixed reviews, but worth the watch for the acting alone: Brie Larson, Harrelson and Naomi Watts!

Image
🌟 The Glass Castle 🌟 Review 🌟 8/10 🌟 The new drama adapted from the 2005 memoir (of the same name) by Jeannette Walls, based on her experiences growing up in a poor dysfunctional family. The film was directed by Destin Daniel Cretton (who also helmed the 2013 critical darling 'SHORT TERM 12'). The movie stars Brie Larson (Room), Woody Harrelson, Naomi Watts, Ella Anderson, Chandler Head and Max Greenfield. The film has received mixed reviews from critics, most of the negative reviews are from those who read the memoir (where as I haven't), they all emphasise how it missed key truths from the story, which I don't know, anyway I digress. I found it to be a little too long, and slow-paced, but it's mostly a good film that will break your heart. The story is told from Jeannette's (Larson) point of view, as an adult, as she recollects on growing up as a child in extreme poverty. Her mother, Rose Mary (Watts), was an eccentric artist, and her father, Rex (H

'The Wailing' Review: Why didn't I watch this sooner, WOW!

Image
🌟 The Wailing 🌟 Review 🌟 9/10 🌟 Directed by Na Hong-jin Starring: Kwak Do-won as Jong-goo, Hwang Jung-min as Il-gwang, Chun Woo-hee as Moo-myung, Jun Kunimura as Japanese stranger, Kim Hwan-hee as Hyo-jin I have seen a lot of films, and reviewed a fair amount of films but this extraordinary two and a half hour technically-perfect humanistic horror film from Na Hong-jin (I SAW THE DEVIL) was something of a cipher. The closest analogy I can suggest is maybe David Lynch's Mulholland Drive, yet another technically perfect, humanistic, suspense opus which keeps you captivated for its full length, yet has you walking out of the cinema (or lounge) shaking your head and wondering what you just saw? Both film-makers understand the "big secret" of story telling which is, if you can present your story in such a way that the viewer feels he or she is sharing the experience with the protagonist, you can tell any story you like and the viewer will just keep going. The ac

'Jungle' Review: Radcliffe gives the best performance of his career!

Image
🐒 Jungle 🐒 Review 🐒 8.1/10 Directed by Greg McLean Starring: Daniel Radcliffe, Alex Russell, Thomas Kretschmann, Yasmin Kassim, Joel Jackson and Jacek Koman A mysterious, unnerving guide escorts an enthusiastic adventurer named Yossi and his two friend's into the Amazon jungle to find a secret village. Their journey turns into a terrifying ordeal as the darkest elements of human nature, the deadliest threats of the wild and the unholy terrain force them to fight for survival. And as far as Survival films go it's pretty good, it's based on a true story so don't expect over the top scenes and last gasp escapes from the wildlife, It's brilliantly acted by Daniel Radcliffe who puts in the best performance of his entire career and physically pushes himself to a level you have never seen him at before, It's beautifully shot and had some pretty gruesome scenes at times, It can be slow at times especially at the start but it's still a great film that w

'End of Watch' Review: David Ayers best work!

Image
📽End Of Watch📽Review📽9.2/10📽 Directed by David Ayer Starring: Jake Gyllenhaal, Michael Pena, David Harbour, Frank Grillo, Anna Kendrick, America Ferrera and Natalie Martinez Longtime LAPD partners and friends, Brian Taylor and Mike Zavala patrol one of the most dangerous neighborhoods in Los Angeles. Though they may bend the rules, their honor and dedication to the job are unquestioned. Taylor and Zavala always have each other's back. Ayer, who has written several police procedural films prior to this, wanted End of Watch to focus more on the friendship between partners and honest police work rather than the corruption we so typically see. Gyllenhaal, Peña, and other cast members underwent an intensive training program to prepare for their roles as police officers. In contrast to his previous works, Ayer wanted to focus on the friendship between Taylor and Zavala and "have all the cop stuff drop away and become secondary to the chemistry of these guys" An

'The Gifted' Episode 3 Review: Exodus!

Image
🌟The Gifted🌟Episode 3 Review🌟7.9/10🌟 This is the first episode in which i have started to get a little frustrated with The Gifted, there are still way too many characters for a show that’s so new. Between the mutant underground, Sentinel Services, and the Strucker family, the list goes on and on. That’s not even counting single character stories like Polaris, and the mysterious doctor who likes mutant siblings. There’s so much going on that the story is starting to move at an extremely sluggish pace. For whatever reason The Gifted feels the need to check in with every character, every episode thus far. For example, we got a scene with Polaris in which absolutely nothing happened. She just tried to use her powers and nearly had a seizure trying to do so. The scene was completely pointless and led to zilch plot movement. We could have been spending time developing the other stories in the episode. We followed two storys in this episode; we saw Reed Strucker trying to be comp

'The Little Hours' Review: Nuns behaving badly!

Image
🕯The Little Hours🕯Review🕯8/10🕯 Medieval nuns Alessandra, Fernanda, and Ginevra lead a simple life in their convent. After a particularly vicious insult session that drives there peasant away, Father Tommasso (John C. Reilly) finds Massetto (Franco) on his travels, a virile young servant forced into hiding by his angry lord therefore giving Tommasso an idea. Introduced to the sisters as a deaf-mute to discourage temptation, Massetto struggles to maintain his cover. An array of popular comic actors unite to create spoofy pandemonium in a rather bizzare medieval setting, with no-holds-barred sexual antics and randy nuns behaving very badly (pun intended). If audiences have as much fun as the performers do in The Little Hours, it will definitely earn lots of fans, possibly even becoming a cult favorite destined for repeat viewings. Amusing, leisurely moments of "contemplation" of the religious kind are intercut with outrageous bawdy events and comic threats of bodily h

'Atomic Blonde' Review: Theron is no wonder woman but she's still pretty awesome and bloody sexy!

Image
🔫Atomic Blonde🔫Review🔫8.5/10🔫 Lorraine Broughton is the most elite spy in MI6. With the Berlin Wall about to fall, she travels into the heart of the city to retrieve a priceless dossier and take down a ruthless espionage ring. Once there, she teams up with an embedded station chief to navigate her way through the deadliest game of spies. Theron punches, kicks, stabs and shoots her way through this beautifully choreographed, narratively complex, but just a tad sluggish action movie from ome of the maker's of John Wick . Former stuntman and complete bad-ass David Leitch produced and co-directed (without credit) John Wick; given that it and Atomic Blonde are the same kind of nonstop, heart-pounding action-based stories, it's tough not to compare them. But when you do, this film comes up just a tiny bit short. While John Wick was tightly constructed, visually beautiful, and stripped down to the point of existentialism, Atomic Blonde runs about 15 mins too long, hits some

'The Irishman': Pesci and Romano channel their inner gangsters!

Image
🎥 PESCI AND ROMANO CHANNEL THEIR INNER GANGSTERS🎥 Joe Pesci and Ray Romano showed true dedication to their roles as they channelled their inner gangsters during filming for The Irishman in New York City on Thursday. Legendary actor Joe, 74, looked every inch the crime boss as he was led away in handcuffs by what appears to be two special agents. The Goodfella star, who plays Sicilian born mafioso Russell Bufalino in the Netflix drama, looked like a force to be reckoned with as he sported a steely stare, hair slicked back and dark shades, paired with a vintage check suit jacket, red tie and high-waisted trousers. He was joined on-set by on-screen brother Ray Romano, who looked almost unrecognisable as he transformed into mob lawyer Bill Buffalino. The Everybody Loves Raymond actor, 59, pulled a series of animated expressions as he rocked a heavy side-parting, spectacles and braces for his scenes. I'm really intrigued to see Romano in his role, I love his work and fin

'Gerald's Game' Review: Suspenseful, thought-provoking and bloody smart!

Image
Last night I delved into yet another Stephen King adaptation 'Gerald's Game' (the 3rd out of 4 released in 2017 alone). This film was rather different to what I have grown to expect from Stephen King but it still sticks to his headfu**ing routes. The Film is based on Kings novel of the same name, about a woman whose husband dies of a heart attack while she is handcuffed to a bed, and, following the subsequent realization that she is trapped with little hope of rescue, begins to let the voices inside her head take over. Carla Gugino (Spy Kids, San Andreas) gives her all in an absolute breath-taking performance, the production is top notch, suspenseful, thought-provoking and bloody smart, but the style of gore is not for the squeamish and has some moments that are really hard to watch, like make you barf hard to watch. Gerald's Game is a tight thriller with a very strong psychological core and a cast that is just as strong, Bruce Greenwood, Henry Thomas and a ver

'The Gifted' Episode 2 Review: rX

Image
🌟The Gifted🌟Episode 2 Review🌟9.1/10🌟 The second episode of THE GIFTED was even better than its pilot. When Blink closed the portal and everyone got through (bar one), she went into having a series of seizures. These seizures caused her power to go haywire, constantly opening a portal to a particular road (what's the deal with this road? Hmmm). These seizures and the road were the source of this episode’s conflict. They needed to get her under control whilst not letting anyone through the portal from the other side. This is where that plot line splits. You had Kate Strucker and Eclipse going to get medication for Blink, while Laura had to do her best to keep the portal closed with her brother and Thunderbird. The other stories involved Strucker being detained by Sentinel Services and then Polaris’ time in jail. Because of the multiple story's some of these stories got the short end of the stick. For example, Polaris’ time in jail didn’t really do anything except sho

'The Punisher' get's it's release date and it's the same day as Dc's Justice League!

Image
Netflix's next Marvel series, The Punisher, has finally got it's official release date: Prepare to get your binge on beginning November 17, the same date that rivals D.C release there new flick Justice League. We got this great news when Netflix dropped a brutal second trailer just yesterday, and it's downright punishing stuff. The first trailer outlined Frank Castle's motive—avenging the murder of his wife—while this one deals more with the emotional and spiritual ramifications of his trail of blood and chaos. "Known throughout New York City as The Punisher, Frank Castle must discover the truth about injustices that affect more than his family alone," reads a new synopsis. Played to the tune "One" by Metallica, over images of Frank brooding and cracking skulls only drives home that this will be a soul-bruising viewing experience and I know this is going to be the best series yet, I have said it all along! I'm going to have to binge

'Mindhunter' Season 1 Review: "How can we get ahead of crazy, if we don't know how crazy thinks?"

Image
🌟Mindhunter🌟Season 1 Review🌟9.1/10🌟 Sorry guys I was going to write a review for each episode but that was really time consuming so decided to do the hole series. This entertaining crime series takes a fictional and rather interesting look at how psychology and traditional investigative field work can be combined to help solve sick violent murders. It explores the idea that psychological profiling can reduce the number of suspects, and help law enforcement understand motive by getting inside there heads ("how can we get ahead of crazy, if we don't know how crazy thinks"). It also reveals the early misunderstandings of criminal behaviorism, as well as the stereotypes that existed about those who studied and applied it during that era. Full of dramatic and unsettling moments, the series is also cerebral and thought-provoking. It relies on an academic understanding of psychology, sociology, and criminal behavior to authenticate the plot. The late 1970s aestheti

'Zodiac' Review: Let's take you back, to the time of the Zodiac!

Image
☠My 3 Fincher Fav's☠Zodiac☠ Review☠9/10☠ Based on the notorious, STILL-unsolved late-1960s to early-1970s Zodiac murders in the San Francisco area, the movie focuses first on efforts to figure out the murderer's (fu**ed up) motives and then on the ways that the Zodiac "imagined" himself into the public's consciousness i.e. by writing letters to the San Francisco Chronicle and leaving twisted clues to taunt the police. David Fincher's excellent movie includes several bloody violent murder scenes (a stabbing is especially grisly). But it's more interested in the consequences of the brutality rather than the brutality itself: crime scenes, investigative procedures, fear in the community, etc. In a mess of intersecting obsessions and deceptions, Zodiac finds remarkable coherence, tracing the similar needs, means, and fictions that structure truth. This is definitely one of the best casts in a flick I have ever seen. The chemistry between Mark Ruffalo

'Brawl In Cell Block 99' Review: I have just seen Vince Vaughn in a new light! WOW!

Image
🥊Brawl in Cell Block 99🥊Review🥊9.2/10🥊 Rarely have I seen such unbridled inspired violence on screen. I loved every bit of this film, and can't remember the last time I winced or grimaced so bad whilst rooting so shamelessly for it to continue. Vince Vaughn is not the type of actor you would normally associate with this kind of role. However, he offers up a bone-breaking, skull-crushing performance, like he's been playing the bad boy, hard man since day one. I have truly never seen Vaughn take on such a role, ever, it's always comedies but here he really shows the extent of his range with said role and leaves us baffled, with the question, why has he not tried such roles before? This story compels violence, it demands it as a necessity to fulfil the screenplay. I felt my need for violent imagery completely satiated as the credits rolled. The fight scenes in particular were very well executed. Much unlike the usual physical big screen exchanges you see quite oft

'American Made' Review: This is not a true story!

Image
🌟American Made🌟Review🌟5.9/10🌟 Directed by Doug Liman Starring: Tom Cruise, Domhnall Gleeson and Sarah Wright First of all, I have to point out that the cinematography was absolute garbage. I guess some directors think that it looks good to film a movie as if it were being filmed by an amateur using a go-pro. Not only were the camera shots always shaky, they weren't even good. Some shots just seemed pointless and a fair few seemed like they were zoomed in way too far, cropping focal points out of the scene. I personally don't think such camera techniques look good at all. They look cheap like a low-budget documentary. One of the points of a movie is to sink in to it and "forget" you're even watching a movie. Well, this camera guy didn't have that concept in mind. Now going beyond the awful cinematography, I felt like the writing was poor, on-top of that, I felt that the acting was below average. A real good movie has every cast member fitting a

'Everything, Everything' Review: Not so bad for a chick flick!

Image
🌟Everything Everything🌟Review🌟7.7/10🌟 Directed by Stella Meghie Starring: Amandla Stenberg, Nick Robinson and Anika Noni Rose So you should know a little about me before I delve into this review: I'm an action/thriller movie kind of guy. I see every Marvel and DC movie as soon as they come out, every horror, action, thriller everything just not chick flicks. But something about this film drew me in... Only kidding I was made to watch it! Come on guys. This movie didn't have the most action packed story line but the story line was good. They progressed the story at a good pace, not lingering on any one scene too long. They did a good job developing the characters backgrounds and helping you understand everyone and had a nice plot twist at the end that didn't feel rushed as if they had run out of budget. They also didn't linger with the closing. While this movie didn't make me want to go see other chick flicks or go read the book, I definitely enjoyed thi

'Gone Girl' Review: It's a creepy, unsettling ride!

Image
🌟Gone Girl🌟Review🌟8.8/10🌟 As im binging on David Fincher's newest success I thought I would write a review on probably the only film I ever liked Ben Affleck in and one of Fincher's best, Gone Girl. Director David Fincher's artful steady hand effortlessly guides GONE GIRL's transition from noir-ish page-turner to psychological thriller. It's a creepy, unsettling ride, testing audiences' loyalties and freaking them out a little, too, as they go to and fro. It's violent, yes, but judiciously so, except for one scene that pushes boundaries -- perhaps so viewers can feel the full impact, in full gruesomeness and terror, of what humans are truly capable of, even if they sometimes don't appear to be. In any case, we're riveted -- and not just because the framing and pacing and pretty much everything else about the movie are inch-perfect (except for the last 10 minutes, which felt like a drag), but because the leads are so compelling. Critics

'Mindhunter' Season 1 Episode 1 Review: Welcome to the glorious mind of David Fincher!

Image
🌟Mindhunter🌟Episode 1 Review🌟10/10🌟 Were taken back to the late seventies in this brilliant crime drama Mindhunter, the decade of severe industrial action and political corruption. Mindhunter revolves around FBI agents Holden Ford (Jonathan Groff) and Bill Tench (Holt McCallany), who interview imprisoned serial killers in order to understand how such criminals think and apply this knowledge to solving ongoing cases. The series is loosely based around one of the most influential crimefighters around, John Douglas. He spent most of his life going round interviewing some of the most brutal serial killers known to man to gauge there motives; not only to find out why they did it, but also why they did it the way they did. In this series our John Douglas is Holden Ford a super-eager, highly intelligent, hostage negotiator/criminal profiler. In the beginning of the first episode he starts off teaching hostage negotiation to upcoming feds which then takes him on the road to where

Marvel's 'The New Mutants' has got it's official trailer and it's all out horror!

Image
HAPPY FRIDAY 13TH! To celebrate this glorious day I thought I would share the new trailer for Marvel's THE NEW MUTANTS which has only just been released! This is no normal superhero flick, this looks like an all out horror movie and I love it. It looks like the horror studio Blumhouse have made it not 20th Century Fox. I remember director Josh Boone saying it would be different to the other X-Men films, but holy hell not this different. It looks terrifying, I couldn't be more psyched after seeing this trailer, especially after seeing one of my favourites of Stranger Thing's (Charlie Heaton) and one of my favourites from GOT (Maisie Williams) coming together and becoming mutants. Anya Taylor-Joy, Henry Zaga, and Blu Hunt look great. Played to a creepy version of Pink Floyd's, We don't need no education, the sh** scary haunted asylum and creepy-ass nurse (Alice Braga) have my full attention! Why do we have to wait until April 13th!

'The Emoji Movie' Review: WTF!

Image
🌟The Emoji Movie🌟Review🌟2/10🌟 Directed by Tony Leondis I had my little nephew today so I thought, hmmm what film should we watch... I chose The Emoji Movie, while I had an excuse to watch it. So what do I have to say about this so called movie. I really don't know what I just watched, with the exception of Spider-Man: Homecoming, Sony continue to prove that they cannoy grasp the concept of filmmaking. What they also continue to prove is there just in it for the money, which makes me worry about future films they take on, like Venom for example. So many talented actors and actresses star in this s**theap of a film and I honestly don't know what was going through the minds of, Patrick Stewart (Poo), T.J. Miller (Gene), James Corden (Hi-5), Anna Faris (Jailbreak) and Maya Rudolph (Smiler) when they signed on to do this film. It follow' s the story of Gene, an exuberant Meh emoji with multiple expressions. Determined to become "normal" like the other

'The Gifted' Pilot episode review: Great Start to Marvel/Fox's New series!

Image
🌟The Gifted🌟Pilot Review🌟9/10🌟Spoiler Free🌟 So last night I finally got around to seeing the pilot episode of Fox's The Gifted, here's how I'm feeling about it. Fox’s first broadcast X-Men series moves away from the core members of the X-Men and features lesser known mutants as we follow the Strucker family who become on the run from the government after the children start exhibiting super-powers but they can't do it alone! I love it all so far and no wonder why, just in the first episode we meet about 8 mutants and there awesome! We have mutants like Polaris, Blink, Thunderbird, Eclipse and more. What more could you ask for? Well the cast all seem great so far, easing into there roles at a fast pace and all meshing together nicely. It doesn't look cheap or cheesy like most shows you see using super abilities, which is no easy feat (to make it look real). Action, drama and great dialogue, it has it all. The plot seems strong and the hole score has got

Martin Scorsese rips Rotten tomatoes a new a**hole!

Image
Martin Scorsese has just gone to town on Rotten Tomatoes and Cinemascore in an article he released to Hollywood Reporter and I completely agree! The thing that's triggered him to release this article is the "F" score Darren Aronofsky's magnificent Mother received. "Before I actually saw mother!, I was extremely disturbed by all of the severe judgments of it. Many people seemed to want to define the film, box it in, find it wanting and condemn it. And many seemed to take joy in the fact that it received an F grade from Cinemascore. This actually became a news story—mother! had been “slapped” with the “dreaded” Cinemascore F rating, a terrible distinction that it shares with pictures directed by Robert Altman, Jane Campion, William Friedkin and Steven Soderbergh" Scorsese explained. He continued in great detail to give them a negative review they will never forget, but he has done it in the right way, the way reviews should be done. "The brutal

'Blade Runner 2049' Review: The Picasso of movies!

Image
🌟Blade Runner 2049🌟Review🌟8.7/10🌟 Blade Runner 2049 is the highly anticipated sequel to the 1982 sci-fi classic Blade Runner, set 30 years after the events of the original and again starring Harrison Ford (as well as Ryan Gosling). Coming 35 long years after the iconic original, Denis Villeneuve's sequel is a visionary's masterpiece, a little heavier on spellbinding visuals than emotions or profound themes, but it still provides worthy food for thought. For me Villeneuve's best films (Enemy, Sicario, and Arrival) are masterful at placing characters in unfamiliar or alien terrain and drawing memorable ideas and feelings from that clash. While Blade Runner 2049 is a bit different, it still has many strong sequences that ponder themes of what it means to be alive -- or to be honest even human. Certainly movies like A.I. Artificial Intelligence and Ex Machina (not to mention the original Blade Runner) probed a little deeper, but this sequel has more than its share

'The Beguiled' Review: Sofia Coppola has mad skills!

Image
🌟The Beguiled🌟Review🌟8/10🌟 Directed by Sofia Coppola Starring: Nicole Kidman, Kirsten Dunst, Colin Farrell and Elle Fanning Sofia Coppola's 'The Beguiled' is, if im honest a great period piece, beautifully made, well-cast and well-acted. Gorgeously shot, it often looks more like a Turner painting than a film, and the use of sound (and silence) is impeccable. It is well-paced, lean yet meditative, and is contained in a single setting that, along with a broader context of Civil-War-Virginia, is used to brilliant effect. The exposition is subtle, characters complex and intriguing, and their interactions captivating. There is little to fault this film for, both in conception and execution. Yet it is somehow also underwhelming. Coppola constructs a contained, oppressive environment, populates it with dynamic, unpredictable women and then introduces a disruptive element. The explosion that happens is more of a splash than a bang, however. If any film could descen

'The Dark Tower' Review: Reckless cliches and rather cheap!

Image
🌟The Dark Tower🌟Review🌟6/10🌟 Directed by Nikolaj Arcel The Film stars Idris Elba as Roland Deschain, a gunslinger on a quest to protect the Dark Tower—a mythical structure which supports all worlds—while Matthew McConaughey plays his nemesis, Walter Padick, the Man in Black, and Tom Taylor stars as Jake Chambers, a New York boy who has a unique power that the Man in Black wants. They took King's epic vision and reduced it to a chain of reckless cliches, encased by poor dialogue And rather cheap looking special effects. I hate to say it but I actually really didn't appreciate the casting choice of Mathew McConaughey as the Man in Black. It was underwhelming and really didn't suit him. His accent made him just seem kind of funny not scary, on top of that he made the film look cheaper than it was (perfect example, the scene in the final act where he's using his powers in a fight with the Gunslinger). I have alot of love for McConaughey in almost every film h

Watch as we dive deeper into the world of 'Pacific Rim: Uprising' in there new full official trailer!

Image
Im officialy geeking out! I've been waiting so long for this... Guillermo del Toro's Pacific Rim was almost every geek's fantasy, mixing together elements of kaiju (giant monster) films, huge robots and anime. Now, the movie gods have blessed us geeks with a geequel, Pacific Rim Uprising. This time, it's John Boyega (Detroit) in the starring role, playing the son of Idris Elba's badass Stacker Pentecost from the first film. Jake was a former Jaeger pilot turned criminal who finds himself as part of the resistance fighting against a new wave of different monsters. And as you'd imagine, they're even bigger than what we saw before. Steven DeKnight, creator of the exceptional Spartacus TV series, replaces del Toro in the director's chair. Dont be afraid fellow Del Toro fans because between his work on Spartacus, the first season of Daredevil and Angel, I'm not too worried about DeKnight being able to pull off the film, even though it's his fir

'The Pursuit of Happyness' Review: When I need inspiration!

Image
🌟The Pursuit Of Happyness🌟Review🌟9.5/10🌟 Directed by Gabriele Muccino Starring: Will Smith, Jaden Smith and Thandie Newton Everyone has that film -- when your feeling down or need some inspiration or just a simple kick up the backside -- that motivates them. Mine has always been The Pursuit of Happyness. The story moves me so much everytime and makes me want to do more and be more. What's yours? I have a feeling when I see Stronger that will be a contender! Jaden Smith is adorable; he delivers an endearing performance as Gardner's son (his best acting performance of his career), Christopher, in what turns out to be a simple, sentimental, but ultimately an inspiring movie. The film deals with the American Dream from a particular perspective, focusing, as the title implies, on the constitutional right to "pursue" your happiness, rather than the right to be happy. In this manner, the movie is able to avoid focusing much on institutional racism and how that

Todd McFarlane gives us some great news on the upcoming reboot of 'Spawn'

Image
Todd McFarlane anticipates that he'll begin formal production on his long awaited Spawn reboot in February 2018. McFarlane, who is directing the live-action film based on his own script, revealed this and a few other interesting details in a New York Comic Con panel covered by Deadline. McFarlane said the film will be "Dark and R-rated" - even more R-rated than the hit film Deadpool which he said had "a couple F-bombs and a couple bare asses." Using the interesting anology of being "a shark in black water," Spawn is described as a dark suspenseful drama a la Jaws. "And if you're swimming he will come and you'll be gone and he will f*** you up." McFarlane is working with the horror studio Blum on this, and said that due to their first-look deal with Universal Spawn could end up there - but they would only need them for "distribution and marketing." "We don’t need your input, we don’t need your cash, we don’t n

'War For The Planet Of The Apes' Review: Emotional Rollercoaster!

Image
🌟War For The Planet Of The Apes🌟Review🌟8.8/10🌟 Directed by Matt Reeves Starring: Andy Serkis, Woody Harrelson, Steve Zahn and Amiah Miller Director Matt Reeves follows the excellent Dawn of the Planet of the Apes with this even more complex, darker, smarter and equally moving sequel, which seems destined to resonate longer than a typical popcorn movie. War for the Planet of the Apes is thrilling, expertly made, and packs an emotional punch (more like knockout, I was almost balling my eyes out several times), especially thanks to canny motion-capture performances by the outstanding Serkis and Zahn and a thrillingly layered human performance by Harrelson in what was definetly his best role for a while, and it was great to see him killing it again, no pun intended. Reeves' direction is razor-sharp, swift, and clear, even if it reverts to its true status as a popcorn movie every so often by lifting bits and pieces from Apocalypse Now and Star Wars. War for the Planet of

'Luke Cage' Season 2: Danny Rand and Luke Cage! Must mean hero's for hire! Surely?

Image
Danny Rand, aka Iron Fist (plus a few more aka's), has arrived in Harlem for Luke Cage Season 2. In a new photo from Entertainment Weekly, we are teased with the thought of the two unlikely heroes reuniting in what looks to be Harlem’s Paradise, the club formerly owned by Cottonmouth and his cousin Mariah. So far we’ve been teased with this new image (Danny & Luke), and recently we got a look at Simone Missick’s Misty Knight sporting her new bionic arm — a result of the events in The Defenders, of course. With Knight set to join the second season of Iron Fist, which is still a few months out from production, it shouldn’t be too surprising that the second season of Luke Cage will bring Danny Rand along for at least one episode (given there comic past), hopefully bringing with him the heroes for hire aspect which could resonate in it's own wicked spin-off series. Well that's what I hope for anyway! Details surrounding Jones’ involvement in Luke Cage Season 2 are cu

Jared Leto to play Hugh Hefner???

Image
Jared Leto is definitely one of the most adept actors in Hollywood having successfully played a transgender in his most brilliant role to date in Dallas Buyers Club and the Joker in Suicide Squad. Now the 45-year-old star will be facing another bold challenge. On Tuesday, wasting no time at all, it was announced that the Louisiana born Leto will be playing legendary Playboy magazine publisher Hugh Hefner, who died on Wednesday at the age of 91. The Hollywood Reporter broke the news on just yesterday. The director will be Brett Ratner, 48, who is best known for the films Rush Hour, Hercules and Tower Heist. The project is in early stages with Ratner's RatPac Entertainment.  'Jared is an old friend,' said Ratner, 48. 'When he heard I got the rights to Hef's story, he told me, "I want to play him. I want to understand him." And I really believe Jared can do it. He's one of the great actors of today.'  The Hef movie has been

'The Hurricane' Review: Inspirational true story!

Image
🌟The Hurricane🌟Review🌟10/10🌟 5 of my 10/10 Movies: Review Week🌟 Directed by Norman Jewison Starring: Denzel Washington, Liev Schreiber, Deborah Kara Unger, Vicellous Reon Shannon and John Hannah The story follows Rubin Carter's harrowing experience as he's wrongfully sentenced to three life terms for murders he never actually commit, then uses the same discipline, integrity, and unbreakable sense of dignity that served him as a fighter to survive in prison. Denzel Washington's dazzling but heartbreaking portrayal as Carter makes us see the man's courage and heart. And the astounding story of chance, loyalty, and dedication that led to his release gives us a chance to see true heroism and redemption. The devotion of the Canadians and the lawyers is truly heroic and extremely moving But, contrary to many movie portrayals, the real hero of this story is Carter himself. In his first days in prison, locked in "the hole" for refusing to wear a pris

'Goodfellas' Review: Pure awesome! Classic!

Image
🌟Goodfellas🌟Review🌟10/10🌟My 5 10/10 Movies Review week🌟 Directed by Martin Scorsese Starring: Ray Liotta, Robert De Niro and Joe Pesci The film narrates the rise and fall of mob associate Henry Hill (Ray Liotta) and his friends (Robert De Niro and Joe Pesci) over a period from 1955 to 1980. Martin Scorsese'sGoodfellas, is a classic. From start to finish, it's full of brutal violence, cruel characters, and very strong language. This classic tale of mob life in New York City is a stunning, vivid look at the ugliness and depravity of a subculture that’s been glamorized, sanitized, and romanticized in countless other films before and after. This is the real deal. Nothing prepares an audience for the raw amorality and insanity of this crew. No movie has better shown how the "goodfellas" create a community wholly isolated from the rest of society by its own warped values and staggeringly amoral code. In scene after scene, Scorsese and his team bring this e

'Wind River' Review: Olsen and Renner are exceptional! Taylor Sheridan is superb!

Image
🌟Wind River🌟Review🌟8.5/10🌟 Directed by Taylor Sheridan Starring: Elizabeth Olsen, Jeremy Renner and even the sensational Jon Bernthal makes an appearance Taylor Sheridan's true achievement in this film lies in his success in crafting an old school crime drama that doesn't try to re-invent the genre but instead relies on good old-fashioned storytelling. Jeremy Renner and Elizabeth Olsen are both exceptional as a dissimilar pair who out of sheer coincidence form an alliance to solve the mystery of a young woman's brutal murder on an Indian reservation in Wyoming (Wind River). Renner is a U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service tracker with a dozen other skills. Olsen is an FBI agent sent on an assignment all alone. The narrative remains quite low-key but gradually builds toward its enticing conclusion. We come to learn quite a lot about Renner's character through his intriguing, painful backstory. He's quite understated and very effective in this role. Olsen e
