'Happy' Season 1 Spoiler-Free Review: Darn Right Crazy And Bloody Awesome!

Image
⭐ Happy ⭐ Season 1 ⭐ Spoiler-Free Review ⭐ 9/10 ⭐ This is the show much of the population needs. It's a train wreck...but a great one. Christopher Meloni is terrific. He comes across great as an ex-cop who's life is "swirling around in a toilet that will never flush." Those that slam his acting, I don't know what you would expect out of an actor portraying the character he's acting out. He's very believable as a man who's his own worst enemy. Patton Oswald is this character in his everyday life. Its almost as if they wrote Happy to be played by Patton. The other characters do enough to not be awful. I don't believe the budget was as such to add highly touted actors and actresses, but they are by no means the type of actors you'd see in a syfy original movie. The CGI is fine for what it is. Happy is a real-life imaginary character or a little girl. He looks like a cartoon. What would you expect a little child to have as an imaginary fri

'Schindler's List' Review: One Person Can Make A Difference In The Face Of Evil!

Image
⭐ Schindlers List ⭐ Review ⭐ 10/10 ⭐ In Schindlers List, Steven Spielberg displays the virtuosity of a great documentary film maker: The Holocaust, in which six million Jews, political prisoners, Jehovah's Witnesses, and gays were killed, is too vast and too atrocious to comprehend. So Spielberg searched through history for the one true story that will make it comprehensible. He gives us a Czechoslovakian businessman, by the name of Oskar Schindler (Liam Neeson), a grandiose and insinuating man bent on making a successful business on the backs of Jews who are robbed of their homes, jobs, property, and, many, their poor lives. The film follows Schindler's transformation from greedy war profiteer to humanitarian who eventually saves the lives of 1,100 people destined for death at Auschwitz. But there are two main characters in this film. If one is Schindler, the other, undoubtedly, is the Holocaust itself. Spielberg gives us the Holocaust in the names of the Schindler Je

Best Worst Movies: #2 'The Master Of Disguise!'

Image
Best Worst Movies: #2 'The Master Of Disguise!' It’s a shame to see what has become of comedian Dana Carvey’s career. Once a star thanks to Saturday Night Live and the hilarious hit spin-off movie series Wayne’s World, his career status took a blow following the critically-hated but audience-adored The Master of Disguise, with many critics unfavorably comparing it to his former SNL co-star’s hit movie series, Austin Powers. In the film, Carvey plays Pistachio Disguisey (yes, you read that right), a bumbling waiter who discovers his family’s hidden secret of being able to transform into any persona they can imagine and must use this gift when his parents are kidnapped by an evil thief. Due to its routine story, family-oriented humor and insanely short running time, it was regarded by many critics as one of the worst films of the decade, but thanks to these bizarre range of character personas and the outrageous performance from Carvey, it’s become a cult hit with audiences

'Mute' Review: Netflix Are Having A Really Hard Time In The Movie Department!

Image
The only film I cannot consciously recommend so far this year is Duncan Jones' 'Mute' which premiered on Netflix a few days back. This film follows the boring story of a mute bartender named Leo (Alexander Skarsgard) who goes up against his city's (Berlin) gangsters in an effort to find out what happened to his missing partner (Sayneb Saleh). This film was like a rotten onion, layer upon layer of shit. Hands down one of the worst films I have seen in a very long time, everything from the editing, dialogue, runtime and score was just completely off, but, that wasn't even the worst part, the thing that really got me was the fact that there was literally no connection at all between between Leo and his apparent love. When she goes missing you just can't help but feel, Why? Why are you looking for her? Why are you so upset? There was no bond at all to help us viewers connect to the characters. The character development was poor on pretty much all accounts and

Best Worst Movies: #3 'Mortal Kombat!'

Image
This was certainly one of the more quality efforts in the video game movie genre, but if you need some kind of hint at how bad this movie truly was, look at the photo above, just look at that terrible hair on the top of Christopher Lambert’s head. Following three fighters mentored by the Japanese thunder-god Raiden in a battle against the evil sorcerer Shang Tsung in a tournament to save the Earth, the film was criticized for cheap visual effects and terrible dialogue, but became a smash with fans that, though disappointed in the bloodless victories in comparison to the games’ grisly deaths, enjoyed the film for its campy feel that still captured the fun and thrill of the games on the big screen. God, when I was a teen I use to think that this flick was so cool, I never really realised how funny it actually was until I watched it again thee other night for the first time in years. You know when you just put something on because you need that background sound to help you concentrat

Promo For 'Legion's Second Season Tells Us The First Season Might Not Of Even Been Real!

Image
We’re not delusional—Legion‘s first super trippy season was absoluetly fantastic. However now we have to ask ourselves if anything we saw during it actually happened, because a new teaser for the upcoming second season wants us to know that everything we “think is real never occurred.” And even scarier, that everything that is coming is “very, very real.” The ominous, stylish new teaser features Aubrey Plaza‘s Lenny back in the psychiatrist chair treating us as her confused patient, telling us our experiences watching season one were merely projections of our repressed sexuality and broken psyche. She informs us that we’re all delusional, and that David, his friends, what happened to them last season, and even her, were not real. Anticipation Level: 99% Excitement Level: 99%

My top 5 Best Worst Movies: #4 'The Wicker Man!'

Image
The majority of us know that remakes can never top or come close to the original, but there are some remakes that fall incredibly short of the mark, especially 2006’s The Wicker Man, starring notoriously over-the-top actor Nicolas Cage as a policeman who travels to a neo-pagan island in search of his ex-fiancee’s missing daughter. While the original received widespread praise from critics for its chilling premise and shocking ending, the remake became a cult hit for its terrible dialogue and poor performances resulting in countless moments of unintentional hilarity that still entertains audiences many years after its release. Entertainment Level: 85% My Rating: 3/10

My Top 5 Best Worst Movies: #5 'Anaconda!'

Image
As I left you guys for so long I thought I would come back and do something interesting, to appease the crowd an all. Therefore I have put together my top 5, best worst movies ever. You know, the flicks that are just so terrible they're fantastic. So coming in in 5th place is the atrociously funny, 'Anaconda.' Two musical artists, an animatronic snake and six Golden Raspberry nominations. Need I say more? Centered around a documentary crew taken hostage by a snake hunter, Anaconda was such an over-the-top entry into the creature feature adventure horror genre that as it went on and the film reached new heights, it became worse and yet more fun, with the ridiculous performances from Jon Voight (National Treasure, Ray Donovan), Ice Cube (21 Jump Street, Friday) and Jennifer Lopez (Monster-in-Law, The Back-Up Plan) making it a terribly entertaining outing.

Update on 'Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil And Vile: Zac Efron Looks So Creepy!

Image
Zac Efron is currently wrapping up filming on his new movie about Ted Bundy, Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile, alongside his cast mates Lily Collins and Maze Runner star Kaya Scodelario. While we still have to wait for an official trailer to get an inside look into the production, the stars couldn’t hold back their excitement and decided to bring fans on-set with their latest Instagram posts.

'Darkest Hour' Review: As You Have Heard Already, Oldman Is Sensational!

Image
⭐ Darkest Hour ⭐ Review ⭐ 8/10 ⭐ Darkest Hour is directed by Joe Wright and stars Gary Oldman, Lily James and Ben Mendelsohn. The movie takes place in the beginning of WW2, Hitler has just sent his army to the neutral Belgium. Britain's house of parliament is in utter chaos. Neville Chamberlain (Ronald Pickup), who signed a peace treaty with Hitler only weeks earlier has lost all his support in parliament. The only man that the opposition will accept is Winston Churchill (Gary Oldman), a politician with a past full of fiascos. Hated by his colleagues, Churchill must rule the UK in a state of crisis with all odds against him. Darkest Hour isn't an action movie, it's more of a political thriller about one man's stand against the Nazis while the whole world weighs heavy on his shoulders. The focus is 100% on Churchill, luckily Oldman pulled it off in style. Oldman brings new aspects of Churchill to the big screen - an energetic, funny and slightly awkward Churchill.

D.C News: Joaquin As The Joker, Bay To Direct Lobo! Make Of It What You Will!

Image
I have two bits of news for you on this dark and gloomy night that revolve around the somewhat dark and gloomy universe that is D.C. The first one that's bouncing around the internet is, Michael Bay to direct a 'Lobo' movie for D.C aslong as the budget is right. I do not like the sound of this at all, I cannot stand Michael Bay and what he does to films, he's like a glorified teen that's been let loose on set, the way he cuts scenes, edits, the lack of substance, lack of logic, the cinematography and sound editing, I think that's about it. I love Lobo and I don't want him to be ruined by the likes of Michael Bay. Now, here's the second piece of movie news that's also bouncing around the internet like wildfire. Joaquin Phoenix is rumoured to be in talks with D.C over the role of 'The Joker' in a stand-alone movie directed by 'The Hangover' director, Todd Phillips. I love Phoenix, he's great, unique and just an all-round top

'Altered Carbon' Season 1, Spoiler-Free Review: Blade Runner Meets Total Recall!

Image
⭐ Altered Carbon ⭐ Season 1 ⭐ Spoiler-Free Review ⭐ 9/10 ⭐ Altered Carbon, in short, is set in the future where your inner-self, your awareness, everything that makes you, you, is digitized, stored and given a new body for the right price. Prisoner Takeshi Kovacs (a ripped Joel Kinnaman), is serving an indefinite sentence for a capital crime he claims he did not commit. Lying in a state of complete inertia for 250 years, he is awakened and purchased by wealthy businessman Laurens Bancroft (an awesomely creepy James Purefoy). Kovacs is promised a new lease on life, with a complete pardon for his crimes, if he can catch a killer. Bancroft's killer, in fact. In this future, you never really die if you can afford to buy a new "sleeve" (body). Your consciousness, memories and all, can be stored in what is called a "stack" and moved to a new sleeve should they face an expected and/or premature death. So in this world, you could be sixty-seven years old and l

The First Poster For Tom Hardy's 'Venom' Has Just Dropped, With The Hint Of It's First Trailer Today!

Image
The first poster for the upcoming Spider-Man spin-off Venom has been released. The poster was tweeted by the official Venom account, which also hinted that the first teaser for the movie will arrive today, February 8. The movie releases on October 5, 2018, and also stars Riz Ahmed, Michelle Williams, and Woody Harrelson. Zombieland's Ruben Fleischer is directing. I'm super stoked! Still feeling a bit hesitant on Sony's production, but the confidence is starting to peer through, thanks to the cast, poster and Homecoming! Roll on the trailer for later!

'The Ritual' Film Review!

Image
⭐ The Ritual ⭐ Review ⭐ 7/10 ⭐ 'The Ritual' is a technically competent and conceptually confident horror picture that manages to crank up the tension without relying on false or obnoxious jump-scares, instead using its ominous musical score and brilliantly foreboding sound design to create a slow-building sense that there's something sinister lurking amongst the trees. And it's in the script where the piece really shines as an example of a group dynamic done right because you honestly do get a sense that these four men have been mates for a long time and yet they are all completely different people who react differently to their bizarre and frightening situation. It's when the film moves into its third act when it starts to lose its way a bit, and the closer it comes to its eponymous ritual the less tense and unique it gets, but the finale does introduce a visually interesting and well developed creature that's only real fault is being shown slightly to

'The Cloverfield Paradox' Review: Whatever They Were Going For, It Didn't Work!

Image
⭐ The Cloverfield Paradox ⭐ Review ⭐ 4/10 ⭐ What a way to let down a half decent franchise. First of all, who realeases there first trailer for a film the day it comes out -- what kind of marketing technique is that. Second of all, what a waste of a brilliant cast and third of all, what a mess. Who goes into making a film thinking right, we have Alien, Prometheus and Life, what one should we borrow from, and then choose Life, I mean WTF guys, you chose the most unsuccessful of them all and couldn't even replicate that. Worms instead of the copious amounts of other creatures/aliens, another great choice, being different an all. Now let's delve into this shambolic movie. The core problem for me was the fact that they couldn't get the balance right at all, going for a sci-fi/horror/thriller and then trying to make it funny, It just didn't work, it was so off. And this is where my second core problem comes in, Enter Chris O Dowd, what a terrible casting choice for

'Super Dark Times' Review: This Little Indie Flick Puts Most Hollywood Movies To Shame!

Image
⭐ Super Dark Times ⭐ Review ⭐ 9/10 ⭐ In Super Dark Times (2017), a teen must come to grips with his increasingly psychotic friend in this harrowing and tense coming-of-age thriller. Written by Ben Collins and Luke Piotrowski, and directed by Kevin Phillips, this indie film's competency highlights why Hollywood fail on many levels. Younger, more creative filmmakers are using technology and innovation to craft solid, beautifully-rendered films that quite simply, put big-budget studios to shame. This is Director Kevin Phillips' first attempt at a full feature film, and I have to say, bravo! Nearly every scene in this film is beautiful, but it's not another example of "style over substance." The movie is structurally sound, competently written, and the dialogue is believable which in-turn makes the characters feel that much more real. It reminds me of films from the '80s and early '90s, which tried to ground fantastic or extreme situations in reality (S

Trailer Time: Here's All The Trailers That Were Released At The Super Bowl!

Image
Don't forget peeps, we have a fresh stack of trailers ready to be watched thanks to yesterday's Super Bowl. We've got a variety of epic new trailers for films and series, which include; Solo: A Star Wars Story, Skyscraper, Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan, Mission: Impossible-Fallout, Jurassic Word: Fallen Kingdom, The Cloverfield Paradox, Red Sparrow, Westworld S2, The Avengers: Infinity Wars and A Quiet Place. But, my favourite of them all was Hulu and Stephen Kings spooky 'Castle Rock' trailer. I'm just really loving everything I watch from hulu so far (Runaways and The Handmaids Tale), they seem to take the time needed to build a proper series and I love that! Anyway I digress... Not that any of us can accurately remember a time when Stephen King adaptations weren’t toppling over one another to scare us first, but the best-selling nightmare-giver is currently more in favor than ever. After the $700m success of It, King has teamed up with Hulu and JJ Abrams

My Favourite Wes Anderson Movie Ever!

Image
⭐ The Grand Budapest Hotel ⭐ Review ⭐ 10/10 ⭐ The Grand Budapest Hotel is somewhat like a Faberge egg: so much whimsy and beauty and point-of-view wrapped up in a comparatively tiny 100 minutes. It's a witty, irreverent film, and just when you think you've finally regained your footing after yet another bizarre, hilarious and ultimately charming plot twist, it trips you up again. Director Wes Anderson creates such specifically visual, detailed, delightful movies, but thats not it, there's plenty to think about too. While the film makes you laugh, it's also destabilizing you with resolutions that are fresh and complex. It'll make you think about friendship and loyalty, and transport you to a world that seems both strange and familiar. That's a feat. Besides, how can anyone resist a cast this brilliant, including Bill Murray, Willem Dafoe, Adrien Brody, Jeff Goldblum, Edward Norton, Saoirse Ronan, Owen Wilson and Jude Law? Though The Grand Budapest Hotel

Great News For All You Big Bang Fans: Parsons Joins Efron In Ted Bundy Movie!

Image
Great news for all you 'Big Bang' fans! Ted Bundy movie update: Jim Parsons, best-known for playing Sheldon in hit comedy series The Big Bang Theory, will portray Larry Simpson, the lead prosecutor during Bundy’s highly televised 1979 murder trial, leading to his execution in 1989, in the film. He joins Zac Efron, Lilly Collins and John malkovich. This keeps getting more interesting!

'Mad Max: Fury Road' Review: The Second Most Beautiful Film Of 2015!

Image
⭐ Mad Max: Fury Road ⭐ Review ⭐ 9.3/10 ⭐ Mad Max: Fury Road, starring Tom Hardy and Charlize Theron, is George Miller's attempt to reignite his long dormant Mad Max franchise...and my god does he ever. For the past decade or so action movies seem to be struggling to capture the excitement and enjoyment the genre once held (bar your John wicks, Sicario, The Raid and a few others); a tenacity that classics from the 80's and 90's had by the bucket-load. George Miller single handedly delivers our saving grace of 2015 with Fury Road on the back of a spike covered oil rig and a blind zombie playing a fire breathing electric guitar. Max is a man of few words, but Tom Hardy's talent for portraying strong, silent characters (Taboo strongly comes to mind) shines through in a gruff but sympathetic performance. He teams up with Charlize Theron's Imperator Furiosa to pretty much save the last 5 hot women on earth from the leader of a powerful cult, Immortan Joe. From th

A24's New Horror 'Hereditary' Looks Terryfing! Check It Out!

Image
Don't do what I did and watch the first full trailer for A24's Hereditary at night with earphones in on full volume. Seriously. The movie—which stars Toni Collette, Ann Dowd, and Gabriel Byrne—absolutely set the Sundance Film Festival on fire. Word of mouth has already reached "audience members barfing in the aisles," Exorcist levels of hype. From the mind-bending first image closing in on what appears to be a perfect miniature home only to enter a very real bedroom, the trailer clues you in to the fact you're not watching cuts from any old horror movie. And It only spirals from there, getting crazier by the second, played alongside one of the most haunting background symphonys I've ever heard!
