Huge star Matt Damon is being shrunk down to miniature size for new film 'Downsizing

Huge Hollywood star Matt Damon is being shrunk down to a miniscule size as part of a plan to reduce the planet’s overpopulation. And he’s being joined by Christoph Waltz, Hong Chau, Jason Sudeikis and Kristen Wiig.

Nope unfortunately for us it is obviously not a real life science project, its all for a new film: Downsizing tells the story of a near future in which some humans undergo an irreversible operation that leaves them 0.063% of their original size.

On the plus side: they suddenly become very wealthy as they now own masses of resources relative to their size ($52,000 suddenly translates to $12million). On the down side: they can’t sign documents with a normal-sized pen and I have a feeling there might be a few more downsides.

It’s an interesting slant on The Borrowers/Honey, I Shrunk the Kids! concept from the mind of Alexander Payne (The Descendants) and his frequent writing partner Jim Taylor that also looks like being an amusing satire.

And if the premise hasn’t reeled you in, this trailer is definitely worth a watch if only for its well-used Talking Heads soundtrack.

Downsizing will hit US cinemas on 22nd December, with a UK release date yet to be announced.
