'Stand By Me' Review: Forever and always a classic!
🌟Stand By Me🌟Review🌟My 5 10/10 Movies and Review Week🌟10/10🌟
Directed by Rob Reiner
Starring Wil Wheaton, River Phoenix, Corey Feldman, and Jerry O'Connell
The film, whose plot is based on Stephen King's novella The Body (1982) and title is derived from Ben E. King's eponymous song (darling, darling, stand by me) tells the tale of 4 young boys from a small town in Oregon who go on a hike and stumble across a dead body of a child.
The film's pure brilliance ultimately lies in its all-embracing realism. Stand by Me goes to considerable lengths to identify the issues and accurately portray the pressures that lead to the rude awakening of young teens pretty much everywhere. In many ways, the conclusion of their quest signifies the end of innocence (or at the very least, childhood) for the main characters, as they're never quite the same after making their horrific discovery.
Stand by Me accurately portrays the sometimes brutal and always painful process of maturation that has plagued both teens and preteens for ages. The boys' unyielding sense of camaraderie and irrepressible spirit sees them through towering adversity that's ultimately admired -- and at the same time abhorred.
The young cast were nothing short of subliminal. From the opening scene of the film, right to the very end they keep you drawn in, feeling that your with them the hole time, that your there going through what they are going through. This film is one of the reasons why the 80s was so great for movies and why I love movies so much! Also is it just me, but everytime I see the young and brillaint Stranger Things cast, they remind me so much of this brilliant young group on so many levels. Forever and always a classic!
