'Good Time' Review: Brilliant film but Don't be fooled by the title!

🌟Good Time 🌟 Review 🌟 8.5/10 🌟

Directed by Ben and Joshua Safdie

Starring: Robert Pattinson, Ben Safdie, Buddy Duress and Jennifer Jason Leigh

When I got back from seeing Thor: Ragnarok, I noticed I had some spare time on my hands before bed, therefore I decided to try and cure my hate for Robert Pattinson's acting and engulfed myself in his newest (highly recommended) film, Good Time, by the Safdie brothers.

After a botched bank robbery lands his younger brother in prison, Constantine "Connie" Nikas (Robert Pattinson) embarks on a twisted odyssey through the city's underworld in an increasingly desperate—and dangerous—attempt to get his brother Nick (Benny Safdie) out of jail. Throughout the course of the film Connie's luck starts to fade and he gets himself into bad situation, after bad situation, on a journey that is completely contradictory to the title itself (brilliant).

The cast -- Including a whacked-out, smacked-out, drunken, would-be drug dealer, a young girl staying up way last her bedtime, and a frazzled security guard (Oscar-nominee Barkhad Abdi) -- feel like they actually live in the dark corners of the story; they seem to have been there long before it began. Jennifer Jason Leigh is great in a small role as Connie's harried, distracted girlfriend, and Ben Safdie is astounding as Nick. But it's Pattinson, finally shaking off the last of his god-awfulTwilight-drenched past, who gives a Pacino-worthy performance full of street smarts, good old rotten luck and fast talk, but with a human soul. Iggy Pop's shockingly gorgeous closing song sums it all up perfectly. Great film, yet again A24 studios smashed it! Bravo!
