Todd Mcfarlane has finally signed with a production company for 'Spawn': It's only the guys that brought us 'Get Out'

Todd McFarlane has been working for a bloody long time to bring his comic book character Spawn back to the big screen once again. Now, it looks like he’ll be able to do that as I'm really excited to say, he has signed with Blumhouse Productions, the company behind recent hit horror films 'Get Out', 'Paranormal Activity', 'The Purge', and 'Split'.

McFarlane made the announcement alongside Silent Bob (Kevin Smith) with a Facebook Live video yesterday, saying that the film was no longer theoretical: “we’re now making movies.”

McFarlane has been working on the project for several years, saying in 2009 that he was writing a new, R-rated, standalone film featuring the character and I have been following him since up until a few months ago when he announced he had finally finished his script, and then the news I brought you yesterday, and now this the best of all, finally 8 years later we should have the film in 2 years. In the video, he explained that Smith was working on a show for BBC America, 'Sam and Twitch', two characters introduced in the original Spawn comics.

Mark A.Z. Dippé directed the first 'Spawn' in 1997, with Michael Jai White playing the title role. However, negative reviews meant that a planned sequel was never produced. The character was first introduced in 1992 in 'Spawn '#1, and followed former Force Recon Marine Al Simmons, who was killed and sent to hell. After making a pact with one of Hell’s rulers, Malebolgia, he’s returned to Earth in a demonic form to fight crime, demons, angels, and eventually Heaven and Hell themselves.
