Lionsgate won a bidding war against Universal and Warner Bros for 'Ballerina': A female assassin that could get linked in with 'John Wick'

It’s been a bit of a rough summer for movies hoping to kick off new “cinematic universes” (The Mummy, King Arthur: Legend of the Sword), but Lionsgate may be on the right track. The studio won a big bidding war against Universal and Warner Bros, for a female assassin screenplay called Ballerina, which they are considering linking into the world of John Wick as a potential spinoff (how cool would that be). Ballerina was written byscreenwriter Shay Hatten, who also wrote the “2016 Black List” screenplay Maximum King!, about author Stephen King directing Maximum Overdrive.
