'Blue Velvet' Review: David Lynch Worrys Me, But He's A Genius!

• Blue Velvet • 9.1/10 •

Well... I wasn't expecting that! While 'Blue Velvet' has the power to repulse you in its dark and twisted mysteries, it also has the power to hypnotize you with its beauty. Vibrant colors and ominous shadows offer gorgeous contrast and the film is packed with unforgettable imagery. Moments big and small, from MacLachlan playing with a child's birthday hat to Dean Stockwell's show-stopping lip-synch of Roy Orbison's "In Dreams", are as haunting as anything you will ever see in cinema.

I was hooked from start to finish, not one quick look at my phone to see how my latest post was doing, nothing, and that was due to the outstanding screenplay, brilliant direction, gorgeous imagery, and some brilliant, sometimes over-the-top acting (Dennis Hopper I'm looking at you).
Everyone was on point, MacLachlan was just right as the lost innocent Jeffrey, Hopper shreds the screen as his depraved, creepy AF counterpoint Frank and Rossellini's performance as Dorothy is devastating and extremely courageous, she had my emotions all over the place!

'Blue Velvet,' is a story of hidden evil and perversion under a conventional American town. If you haven't seen this Lynch classic, check it out!
