Joker origin story has been confirmed and Scorsese will be producing: Less of a DC movie, more of a gritty and grounded hard-boiled crime film set in early-‘80s Gotham City
Last year Jared Leto followed in the footsteps of Jack Nicholson and Heath Ledger, introducing his own take on the crazy Clown Prince of Crime.
Having only had a supporting role in Suicide Squad, The Joker’s future in the DC Expanded Universe has recently been in question.
Now Deadline are reporting that a Joker origin story is in the works, led by The Hangover’s Todd Phillips, who will direct while writing the script with Scott Silver (8 Mile).
Martin Scorsese is on producer duties, so what's happening with Leto’s incarnation?
Well it turns out the origin story will be completely separate from the DCEU movies, allowing for Warner Bros to have multiple storylines featuring different actors. So movie fans will be looking forward to another Joker who is not a younger version of Leto’s incarnation seen in Suicide Squad.
Nevertheless fans of Leto don't have to worry as he will return for Suicide Squad 2 and Harley Quinn spin-off Gotham City Sirens, both of which are set in the DCEU.
Meanwhile the Joker origin story will be “a gritty and grounded hard-boiled crime film set in early-‘80s Gotham City.”
Apparently its not meant to feel like a DC movie, but more like one of Scorsese’s movies from the period like Taxi Driver and Raging Bull, which I don't know about you guys but I'm ecstatic to hear!
