Video game movies have never been Hollywood's strong suit. Most have a tendency to languish in development hell, and the ones that make it to theaters tend to be incredibly mediocre. One of the most promising potential video game adaptations is the long-rumored Uncharted film. However, that project has apparently suffered a major setback, as the man with only one voice Mark Wahlberg is not longer attached to star as Nathan drake, thank god in my opinion firstly I would hate to see him doing parkour for some reason I don't think that's his strong suit, secondly Nathan drake is not a bostonite, thirdly it just wouldn't go. For me I think Tom Cruise would be a good fit, that would suit him.
A new report from We Got This Covered confirms that Mark Wahlberg is officially no longer attached to the film adaptation of the Uncharted video game franchise. This revelation came about during the promotional campaign for Patriots Day, during which Wahlberg stated that, "as of now," he is not involved in the project. Wahlberg had reportedly been involved in the development of the Uncharted movie for the better part of the last five years, but now we can pretty much confirm that it's not going to happen anytime soon. Maybe he had traumatic flashbacks from when he played max pain in that epic flop of a movie, who knows.
With Wahlberg out of the picture, the film once again finds itself catapulted back to square one without a headlining actor to play its central (and most vital) role. Nathan Drake is a modern icon in the world of video games, and the Uncharted adaptation needs to make sure that it taps an actor who can convincingly take on such a role. Mark Wahlberg was a poor first choice so now it's back to the drawing board.
Although video game movies have never performed overly well with audiences, it is our sincere hope and faith that trends will change in the near future. With the Michael Fassbender-fronted Assassin's Creed adaptation leaping into theaters later this month, and many have held that particular project up as one of the most promising video game movies in recent memory. If the Assassin's Creed movie actually manages to make a good impression on audiences when it debuts which I'm confident it will then it remains plausible that the Uncharted movie could have a much easier time making its way through development.
What are your thoughts on Mark Wahlberg's departure from the Unchartedadaptation? Do you think it's a missed opportunity or a chance to find someone even better suited for the role? Let us know what you think?
