RESIDENT EVIL: THE FINAL CHAPTER COMES 4TH IN ITS OPENING WEEKEND!!

The Friday-Sunday estimates are in. As reported by Entertainment Weekly yesterday, Resident Evil: The Final Chapter made $13.9 million at the US box office to land in the No. 4 position for its opening weekend. The No. 1 movie was M. Night M. Night Shyamalan's Split, which has been on top for two weeks running now. The Final Chapter was also outperformed by A Dog's Purpose ($18.4 million) and Hidden Figures ($14 million). You can see the full Top 10 list below.
The Resident Evil movie series historically performs better when it goes out internationally. That's already the case for The Final Chapter, as it's made $64.5 million of its $78.4 million total from international regions. The series is poised to pass $1 billion soon; there have now been six entries in the series dating back to 2002.
  1. Split – $26.3 million
  2. A Dog's Purpose – $18.4 million
  3. Hidden Figures – $14 million
  4. Resident Evil: The Final Chapter – $13.9 million
  5. La La Land – $12 million
  6. xXx: Return of Xander Cage – $8.3 million
  7. Sing – $6.2 million
  8. Rogue One: A Star Wars Story – $5.1 million
  9. Monster Trucks – $4.1 million
  10. Gold – $3.5 million.

According to Box Office Mojo, The Final Chapter pulled in $5.1 million at the US box office on Friday, behind A Dog's Purpose ($5.3 million) and Split ($7.9 million).
The original story is below.
The newest video game movie, Resident Evil: The Final Chapter, is out now. It opened on Thursday evening and made $1 million from those early screenings in the US, according to Variety.
It was expected to make as much as $14 million this weekend just gone at the US box office. The film had a reported $40 million budget and is said to be the final entry in the series.
Last week's No. 1 movie, the M. Night Shyamalan thriller Split, made $40 million for its opening. Variety said it is expected to perform well again, finishing the weekend "in the high teens" in terms of millions of dollars.
The Final Chapter is going up against another new release, A Dog's Purpose, which is expected to make as much as $22 million this weekend to land at No. 1.
Another notable element of this weekend's box office is that a number of films are either growing their movie theater footprint or returning to theaters to celebrate their Oscar nominations. For example, the hit musical La La Land, which picked up a record-tying 14 nominations, will play at 3,136 US locations this weekend, compared to 1,850 last weekend. Additionally, the sci-fi movie Arrival, which received eight nominations, is returning to theaters with bonus commentary from the director and stars. I recommend watching all these films apart from A dog's Purpose.
The final chapter is the sixth movie in the series, all of which have been directed by Paul W.S. Anderson with Milla Jovovich in the starring role of Alice.
The newest Resident Evil game, Resident Evil 7, launched this week for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
