TODD MCFARLANE ANNOUNCES THAT THE SPAWN SCRIPT IS ALMOST DONE!

We’ve been waiting for a new Spawn film so long it almost feels like “The Boy Who Cried Wolf,” and yet I know for a fact that this latest incarnation was being sent around town. If you were hoping for good news, we don’t have it, especially since creator Todd McFarlane just openly revealed he’s been tweaking the script yet again. This time, though, he’s spinning it as if he’s just now narrowing it down to a place where he will then send around town (he has sent to a small handful of individuals).
In the video blog above, McFarlane offers some good news, revealing that “the script is done, at least the first draft.” But what he says is the initial rough draft was 182 pages, which is “way too long for Hollywood,” adding that “they like it to be about 120 page, basically a page per minute.” So, while he says it’s done, he then goes on to say that he’s widdled it down to 136 pages with plans to cut another 10-15 out. It’s all a bit contradictory, even though he says he’s had 14 inquiries from studios as to the status of said script. All I know, for a fact, is that some incarnation of this script was sent out back in March (as we reported exclusively), even if to just a few individuals. Digressing, McFarlane does promise to have some clarity and an announcement come San Diego Comic-Con this coming July.
I have no doubt there are some companies interested in this intellectual property, although each have their own needs, budgets, demands, etc, which could be why McFarlane is back at it once again. I don’t think it’s a matter of “if” it will happen, just “when”. Spawn is an incredibly interesting character with a wealth of characters and a deep mythology; a Hulu/Amazon/Netflix would be better suited than a low-budget horror film. What do you guys think?
